Saddlemen Saddlegel Seat Pad Advice needed
« on: May 05, 2010, 09:53:31 AM »

Does anyone have any experience with these pads..?  Me and the Mrs are heading west and taking a very long 10 day trip on the bike.  The Mrs. usuaully rides her own, but this time she will be my BSR for the entire trip.

I also just replaced my seat with a Corbin Dual Touring seat...   soooo... I know there's some break-in miles ahead of us.  She's complained in the past about previous Corbin's I've owned and I want to take every precaution I can to make sure she's comfy whilst out touring...

If anyone can help me out with this particular seat pad advice or any others that you'd recommend we would greatly appreciate it.

Thnx

Have never sat a Corbin with a gel pad.  Have sat a few gel pads on others bikes and have sat many many miles on my own Corbins.  My guess is that they'd not be a great combination based on those experiences.  The pad would somewhat defeat the purpose of the support given by the Corbin.  The pads can also get uncomfortably warm.

When buying my seats from C&C Seat, they recommend NOT getting the gel pad! FWIW. I agree with Don. I also recommend C&C. Talk with Chuck, he'll give give you good advice IMO.

I appreciate the feedback fellas.  The bike is getting loaded up this weekend and shipped out ahead of our departure. So I don't have much time for mods etc.  I need an alternative just as a cya...

The pad choice is where I'm at right now.  She may defy the laws of gravity and find the pad extremely comfy... who knows.

I can't imagine sitting on the "back" of a bike for hours on end as our BSR's do...   I imagine it can be rough especially on a new seat.

I've purchased 7 Corbin seats over the years. 4 for me and 3 for her.  They all require break in time and once broken in I find them to be redicously comfortable. Corbin's definately my seat of choice.  We'll see what happens...

I would trust the Corbin for the most part but if she feels she needs that "little extra" I'm sure you could find a gel pad on your travels  :nixweiss:

I like the Air Hawk pad for long trips...you can add or remove air to change the feel of the pad. Got mine at J&P Cycles in Daytona FL.
