I just sent an email to the principal, Nick.Boden@mhu.k12.ca.us <Nick.Boden@mhu.k12.ca.us> and copied the Superintendant of the school district,  wes.smith@mhu.k12.ca.us

The message I sent:

Mr. Nick Boden
I just finished reading the article on MSNBC regarding the issue between the American Flag and Cinco de Mayo.  Sir, as a Marine from the Viet Nam era let me say in short that the actions of your school are way, way out of line and unwarranted!

Clearly, this is America and the American flag is the same flag that we pledge allegance to on a daily basis.  I ask you sir, where was your allegance yesterday? 

Cinco de Mayo may be a Mexican holiday however, it is not an American holiday and we do not recognize it as such.  As an American that fought for freedom in America I expect nothing less than a personal apology to the students that were wronged as well as their families and to the American public that you have offended.  Yes, I am offeded by your actions, you sir, are incendiary!

Interesting that we have to put our patriotism away for a foreign holiday.  I wonder if in Mexico they don't allow showing any Mexican patriotism on July 4th?  Fat chance on that happening.  The crap this principal pulled was way over the top.  An the Mex-Am kids said they were owed an apology for this "affront" on "their day".  Give me a friggin break!  If they want to have an exclusive celebration of a Mexican holiday, then go to freakin Mexico and celebrate!!  What a bunch of morons!!    Okay, I'm calmed down now...NOT!!

   I am appalled by the article on MSNBC regarding your stand against the American Flag in favor of Cinco de Mayo.   The last time I checked, Morgan Hill, CA, was still in The United States of America. Why would any American, on American soil be forced to celebrate a Mexican holiday?  Since when is wearing a representation of the American flag in America offensive to anyone?     It is not and will never be, sir.  Your stance is not “political correctness.”   It’s just misguided ignorance.  Some of us are proud to be Americans.  That is not disrespectful of anyone.   The police protect Hispanics displaying Mexican flags on American soil on May Day,  Cinco de Mayo, or any other day they chose.  That’s one of the beauties of this country.  AMERICANS are entitled to the same protection.  If either is ever entitled to priority… it shall be the American Flag.  

   Your lack of respect for America and poor judgment here are the real issue.   I look forward to an article about the discipline to be applied.  Mr. Smith?

Here's the part I find most interesting.

Sure they would... Says a lot about immigration in this country. Although they maybe naturalized my bet is some of their family is not and could be teaching their children to "hate" thus this comment above. Any in my family, if in Mexico, are found dancing in the streets celebrating on the 4th of July see someone wearing a Mexican Flag they would be more than welcome to join the party. If not, that's OK too but we would never, ever be offended by their countries flag waved or worn. Such a shame. I'm not always PC but I know what is right and wrong and don't disrespect unless disrespected to the point my back is to the wall.

 Mexican-American, I think that speaks for its self.  We are in AMERICA and well they may not think it was right they are forgetting where they are.  We are all AMERICANS first! I have grown tired of this big fight over culture and race. Live with it or go back to where you came from if it is such a big deal.  I understand heritage and being proud of your background but you should not be able to make other people change because it is your day or beliefs.
Heck it is not even an American Holiday so why should those students be forced into celebrating something they are not a part of or don't care to be a part of.  This is America where we still can have differing beliefs, I think?

If I had the power, I'd call them in my office and give them a day or two off, with no pay to "reflect" on their decisions.

BTW i saw a mexican flag on a t-shirt today. I tried to tell him I was offended by it but he could not understand what I was saying.  Go figure!

What a crock... I refuse to recognize Mexican-Americans, African-Americans or any other citizens with a combination of nationalities and
 _____-American.
This is America. If you are from somewhere else and choose to live here and benefit from our society... then you are American. Period. You may very well be of Mexican or African, or Polish, or Italian decent, but you are an American. This is America. Look at any of the dollar bills in your wallet (might I add that you earned here, in America!), take it out and look at it. It too, is American.

It really chaps my a$$ to hear people who moved here from another country, speak about the land they fled as their "home", or their "country". Bull$hit. If they fled, and came here... then this is "their" country, and they should be thankful for that. I certainly welcome people from other countries to live here, but don't disrespect us or our culture, and snub us as we offer you and your families a better life. I can promise you that if I made the decision to leave this country and make a better home for me and my family, then I would be proud to refer to that country of choice as "my country". But that's not what they do, because they know they can come here and make a good living, career and home. But they are not appreciative of that.

We, as an American society are fools to these people. Where else can you migrate to, get instant free benefits, earn rights, and then bad-mouth their people and government, with no accountability or circumstances?

Apologies for the rant. It just struck a nerve.
