Cycle World CVO Ultra
« on: February 09, 2006, 07:10:55 PM »

Cycle World mag. just did a comparison between the Ultra CVO, BMW K1200LT and Honda GL1800. Good article, of course the high prise tag did not help in the final results; I won't go there :-X. The main point here is that the MOCO sent another Haze for the test riders. This is the second mag to test this bike and a Haze was sent. WHY DON'T THEY SEND THE TEST RIDERS ONE ONE OF THE BLACK CANDY CRIMSON BIKES. As the MOCO has said "there suposed to look like that" let the MOCO give a major m/c mag a crimson bike and then maybe ours would get fixed!!!!! >:(

For magazine tests the manufacturer will always provide the color they think looks best on the vehicle and in photographs.  Now, do they think the bike looks better in crimson/charcoal but were afraid of revealing the paint issue?  I dunno, but the bike does look quite sweet in haze.

Read the article last night. Kinda hard for a stock V-Twin to compete with EPA friendly, water cooled higher hp bikes.  Looks like all we have to do is fix the motor where it runs good, change the windshield, create more room for the passenger, fix the paint, lower the price, and make it more comfortable during wet conditions.    ;D

Uhhhhhh, isn't that what we all do to our Harleys anyway?   [smiley=confused5.gif]

I wouldn't trade for 3 of them other bikes......

I'll second that brother.  Harleys have more soul than I can control.  Can't say that about the others.  JMHO.

Let's enjoy our H-D's for what they are and hope they never figure us out... [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]
Let me give you a solid AMEN on that.  Nothing compares w/ the soul-stirring emotional rush of firing up a V-Twin with some 'ummmph' and heading out for the adventures that naturally occur in this great land of ours.  Damn, now you've made me want to make a run.  8-)  har~!  spyder

You know, if the price would have been more in line with the other two, the Harley would have probably won hands down. The all liked the feel and the sound of the HD, they just didn''t like the extra CVO price.  If you took a standard Ultra w/103 motor, it would be priced much more in line with the other two, and might have beat out both. Bottom line, a Harley is a Harley. No other bike feels, sounds, or creates the same emotion. Pull into a gas stop on those 3 bikes, and guess which bike will draw a crowd?   [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Hi folks,
What month issue is this review in?
I am having trouble finding the magazine, the local magazine shop has closed that would carry it and the local "stop and robs" don't seem to carry Cycle World.
Could anyone scan the article and post it here?

I know what you guys are saying about the Harley emotional side of ownership. Back in 1980 I rode a Goldwing and it was a great traveling bike that never gave me any problems but it also had no soul.It was just a means of transportation. I always remembered my first motorcycle ride on a Harley dresser in the 1960s. When I got my first Harley in 1997 It brought back memories long forgotten and I felt apart of the bike and the Harley family.

VA, it's in the March issue. I also had trouble finding the article. Nothing on the cover about at all. The article is called Lap of Luxury on page 84.

Hey Eagle. What did ya do with your t-shirt collection from your Wing days? [smiley=confused5.gif] Glad you're with us again. I was kidding but do Honda riders collect Goldwing t-shirts???

Thanks folks,
After checking a few more stores I found the magazine at my local grocery store of all places. ;D
ezrider, those shirts from 1980 are like the song "dust in the wind" [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]
I don't know about now but in 1980 Honda was not big on the t-shirt scene. I do remember one shirt with the large gold wing on it though. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

I use to have a t-shirt with Honda on it.....It read...I'd rather have a sister in a whore house than a brother on a Honda....and a big ol HD Bar/Shield in the center of it.  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]  Of course, my brother now rides a 2006 GW, I really need to find one of those shirts again.

That would be a hoot! I like to tease a friend who rides a Wing that the offical Gold Wing attire is a big ol' helmet with a CB mike, a polyester "camp" shirt, shorts and a pair of velcro tennis shoes. I know it's mean but he get's me back with his anti H-D remarks.

Yeah it's all in fun, them GW's are fast, I'm sure he'd just leave the SE in the dust if he wanted too.  It works for him and he's happy on it, thats all that really matters.  Hopefully he and I will be able to do another x-country run, we had a great time back in '03...
