Need Help Finding Part # -- Aux Switch Housings Clock
« on: May 09, 2010, 03:33:15 AM »

Harley at least used to offer a little clock that fit in the switch locations of these auxiliary switch housings.  I can't find it.  Either part has been obsoleted or I'm too tired to be looking for it this evening.

If someone has the part number for this little clock please post it here.  If it is obsolete and someone has one the little clocks that needs a home please let me know that too.

The aux housing that hold the little clock I'm looking for is pictured below.

Thanks

Perhaps it is this one "Harley-Davidson Billet Analog Clock Billet Aluminum Case - 75054-03" which can be found here on eBay.

I dont remember ever seeing a clock that fit in that switch housing.?>? Have seen those in the link above and a few others that aren't even close to what your looking for. It would be a good place for one though. Keep us updated if you find one..

No luck, that's not it Gary.  They at least used to make one that fit right inside one of the switch holes on the auxiliary switch housings.  That's what I'm after.

I haven't seen one for a long time.  When those aux housings were first made available seven or eight years ago the little clock followed shortly thereafter.  Was just a little LED time display.  I've actually seen it in person once.  Have an 2002 project slowly in the works that's developed in such a way one of those aux housings will be a proper addition.  One switch for spots, one switch for a master on/off for the cruise control and one switch hole left without need.  That I'd stick the little LED time display in the top hole to finish it out if I can find one.

Got that from this Link. That link is saying it is from page 572 of the 2009 P/A Book. :nixweiss:

That's it.  Nice find.  But the answer breeds more questions.  If I'm reading that correctly the p# is 42949-02.  At Lake Shore or Chicago Harley it's not coming up.  So I'm not reading the small print correctly or it's obsolete.  Doesn't mean there's not old stock on a shelf somewhere.  But that's a question for a different day.

Even if readily available there are more questions though.  I didn't remember that it used up two of the three switch holes.  My original intent was one hole for the cruise control master, one for a spot light master and one for the clock.  The cruise control master on/off could go to a toggle on the back of the nacelle.  But I don't like those and was eliminating them completely; or at least was planning to.

Could just do without the master on/off for the cruise.  But, especially in a bike application, I like the master.

Also didn't know until reading this that the clock only worked in the left side aux housing kits.  Had planned on the Heat Demons controller on that side.  That controller could be on the right side though.  So not a big deal with that one.  Just more stuff to coordinate.

Hmmm, decisions decisions.  Might just ditch the little clock idea.  Doing so might even help me toward a final decision on the speedo/tach question.  The Dakota Digital display instrument I've been considering has listed that it has a 12 hour time display accessible in it somehow.  Might just go back to my initial switch layout and finally decide on the Dakota Digital speedo/tach instrument.

But.....  If that three switch housing uses one slot for the spots and one for a cruise master on/off that other hole will need to do something.....   Won't it?

Oooh, just had an idea.  The Sunray heated seats have a little pilot light LED that can fill one of those holes.  It lights up when the seat heater is on.  Bet I could use that but instead make it signal when.... oh... something is on.  Maybe when the spotlights are on.

Certainly you didn't think finding the part was going to be the (simple) solution?? ;D

Ok, have my glasses on now.  It's better.  Was still an idea that failed when visited by the light of day though.

Had seen one of those a few years ago.  Briefly.  Didn't remember it eating two of the three available slots in a housing.  That makes the notion yet another good idea that fails execution.  Need more slots.
