purchasing tts
« on: May 11, 2010, 12:45:12 PM »

Where is the best place to get the tts price wise?
Oh another question i sell a serial cable and a usb cable.  Will either work or do you have to have the serial cable.  Trying to figure out if i need to buy anything else or able to use cables i already have for my computers.  Or if there is something special about them.

Oh had another question with this.  I am guessing i need to buy some o2 sensors and bungs to weld into my pipes.  What are the best time to run with the tts? such as the wide or narrow band.

try www.MCPartsOutlet.com  I paid $324 incl shipping

ask for Chris

as far as the cables go, the thing is built for a serial port, after all it is really just the original Harley Tuner, since TTS built the original Tuner,  with some real cool updates.  The whole USB thing is a real pain in the ass the drivers are real finicky.  I refuse to pay $80 for a $3 cable but you take your chances.  I never found the right cable but I did fond an old laptop which had a serial port, real old laptop.  Since I had my cables from my original race tuner 2003 FXSTBI, thats what I did.  Hope this helped

thanks i will give him a call.  Did you put it on your 2003?  Are you running it without the o2 sensors or did you weld some in?  Cursious if i can get away without the sensors for now then later on equip them.

to be honest I am no  kind of wrench.  I do a ton of research then just ride the chit out of what I built in my head.  I let the pros do the work and I just enjoy the labor of there efforts.....of course my wallet is a little lighter after that so as far as the O2 sensors....???????

When you do your shopping, don't forget that getting the TTS for the cheapest price is not always the "BEST" price.  You also pay for "SUPPORT" and I don't mean this forum or calls to TTS for help.  That was my reasoning when I chose Doc.  Talk to the dealers and find the one that talks to you.  There is and old rule, "There is (1)fast, (2)good and (3)cheap, but you can only have two out of the three."

I run a computer business and have cables all over the place.  In the end, I figured it was cheaper to have a USB cable I know that works and is dedicated to the project.  I also was able to avoid any frustration that might have occurred if the cable I thought would work did not work.

While many computers have serial ports, they are rapidly becoming harder to find on the newer computers unless you order a higher end one.  The cheap $599 computers typically will not have them.  If you have a computer with one now, don't expect your newer computer to have one.

The biggest issue we have is with USB cables. We never wanted to be in the business of selling USB cables but were forced into it. In the beginning the USB adapters all pretty much worked. Then as time went on they started not working and we had not changed anything. After much time and searching we found out that some of the manufactures were following the standards while other are not. So we though OK it's just the cheaper unit that will not work. That didn't pan out either. So that has got us to where we are today, selling a cable that we know works.

thanks for the info steve.  Guess i am just going to have to bite the bullet and buy the cable also.  Since i have ya here is it alright to run the tts without the O2 sensors?  I haven't drilled or got bungs and sensors for my pipes yet.  And what type of sensors work best with the tts?
