Looking for recommedation on windshields
« on: May 12, 2010, 04:11:45 PM »

I have a 2010 CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide with the short 6.5 inch dark shield (one of the lucky guys to get the black limited addition one, hence the 545 in my name [545 of 999]).

The stock windshield, while attractive, doesn't suit me...coming off my 2009 Ultra classic which had the standard clear height shield.

I don't mind a short shield or that it is dark because I can look over it. Has anyone tried the Kuryakyn or Harley's new curved shields yet? I'm 5'-10" and can see over a 15" shield but would like something a bit shorter that still deflects the wind over my head a bit as well as have less noise. It would be nice if I didn't have to pop for a few hundred bucks to try them out too. Any recommendations?  Thanks-John

Check out the "baggers_only" store on ebay.  I have a 6 " cobalt blue windshield that I bought for around $40 and just purchased a chrome 4" for $27.  They have any color, any height at cheap prices.

Try a re curve there are several out there I run a Clearview 8" but they also come from Klockwerks, Harley and CEE Bailey.
the curve throws the wind up and over you allowing a shorter screen for viewing over without the turbulence of the standard.

Go to the home screen menu and type recurve in the search box there are lots of threads about this topic.

There are many threads on this forum about windshields.  After a couple of attempts, I landed on the Cee Bailey and love it.  They are located here in So Cal, so I was able to pick up directly.  Great customer service, and good looking, functional windshield imho.

I've just been down this route.
I found the stock sheild on my 2008 Ultra was giving me a lot of buffeting and over long journey's it was giving me more discomfort than I wanted to tollerate.
I bought the X-Stream 9" in mid grey which matches the wind deflectors on the bat wing.
I've just returned from a 2300 mile trip and I have to say I'm delighted with the results.
Very little buffeting and reduced noise all round and I'm sure the bike seems to be more stable at speeds over 70mph.
I considder this excellent value for money.
Good luck with your choice.

Just a word about the Long Ride Shields mentioned above.  I purchased the 8" last year and to be honest, there is no difference between the stock 8" shield that I had and their shield.  I wrote them twice to tell them this and they never even bothered to answer either of my emails...poor customer service.  I personally will never buy anything from them.  Just my experience...

Hello Guys,
I am not sure if this is OK to jump in on this thread.....but I an approved vendor with the CVO Forum.....we have a thread (15% OFF WINDSHIELDS for Street Glide, Electra Glide, Ultra - Freedom Shields) in the vendor area with my contact info.

My name is John from Freedom Shields.....if you would check out our shields...I think you will really like them.  They are thicker than these other shields, more of a kick at the top to drive the air higher....and we hand polish the edges to a smooth gloss look.  Of course I am bias.....but they are awesome shields.....I would put them up against any other shield.

I won't hop on this thread again so I do not but in.....but when I saw the post on windshields I thought it would be ok.

Thanks

Cee Bailey's gets my vote. Top quality great customer service. MADE IN USA. You gotta put the best on that CVO! I have the 12" Stepped and it really works and looks cool too.
