Didn't see a weapon or a threatening move. I  want to give the officer the benefit.  Can't make that happen here.  Looks like the cop has a problem with "cause"

Seems the issue is that cities can't afford the cost's of hiring real cops that have been trained in the appropriate response to real world situations.  This guy bolted and stopped - then was shot.  Where was the "immediate threat".  Should he have stopped  and thrown his hands up..probably, should he have been shot in the back for not doing that..I think not.

We are a group of free thinking individuals that thinks outside the box.  I challenge anyone here to say that they have never pushed the envelope..If you had been shot in the back, would you, and your family, have accepted it?

There was no immediate threat to the officer (shelter of cruiser) or any bystanders.  Victim was in a very unbalanced situation, facing the wrong direction, lights in his face.  Even he pulled a gun, try shhoting from that position.  The officer had lots of time to do this right.
It's hard to train for these scenarios (been there, but didn't fire) so that it's instinct, not panic reaction.

All I can say is WOW! My little brother is a LEO and we worry about this all the time. In my opinion the officer was amped up after the short chase and made a move brought on by an adrenaline induced decision. It is unfortunate that someone is paralyzed, but I can only say we shouldn't be to quick to judge him or to cast a net over all LEO's for the actions of one. I do agree that the officers actions were VERY drastic, but as my brother has said to me many times "walk in my shoes and then you will understand what we go through". I feel sorry for all involved!

Have several LEO's in my family and friends.  All have seen this and concluded that this cop did it all wrong.  All of them wanted to find a reason to side with the cop but could not.  The jury is going to find this guy guilty and the civil suit against the department is going to settle for a large sum.  They won't let that civil suit go to trial.  Tragedy all around, but LEO's know that they can't do stuff like this.  They have to exercise maximum restraint when using deadly force.  Lesson to all of us:  put your hands out where they can see them.  You can't trust all LEO's to be trained well and be smart and sensible.  Most are, but it is obvious from this case that some are not.  Show em your hands, because that is what they all worry about.  Don't give them any reason to be worried about you.

From my perspective of the video, I don't think the riders realized a cop was behind them when they hopped on it.  I would be thinking "Oh chit now I've screwed up, got caught dragging"

Bad cop bad training and unjustified. Yes I'm armchair quarterbacking, coffee station reffing, bathroom cheerleading Monday thru Saturday and whatever else two days in a row. Guess I watched the video and read the news stories to come to a conclusion.
