Newbie Question
« on: February 12, 2006, 06:53:11 AM »

Hey Guys,
I am a proud new owner of a 03 SERK. I need you all to go over my numbers and make me some suggestions.
I bought my serk last month and it had 838 miles on it, the motor is stock. I installed
Vance and Hines true duals, Vance and HInes classic turn down slip-ons
Arlen Ness big sucker stage 2 (20% more flow than the big sucker)
and power commander.
we dyno'd seven times, with various results. Fianlly took torque over horse.
Ended up with 85 horse and 97.5 fp of torque.
I don't want to put cams in yet.
What kind of numbers should I be getting?
I guess the only way to tweak would be with power commander.
Can any of you dyno gurus help me out.
thanks------BADBUD

Badbud,

Well first off the pipes have something to do with it.   Most are seeing stock with A/C and pipes around 96-98 tq and 92 -94 hp.   I would have recommended the RaceTuner over the Powercommander for a few reasons,
1.  Can tune each cylinder independendly
2.  Can change timing on each cylinder independently
3.  Have the ability to tune for Volumetric efficiency of your cylinders not just go off a base map and add or subtract fuel to it.
4.  You wouldnt need to get a download put into the bike incase the power commander chits the bed.   If you plan on sticking with the power commander i recommend getting a download for 2 reasons    A.)  To allow you to get home incase the powercommander bites the big one.  B:) to raise your rev limiter to 6200 power commanders dont yet have this ability
5.)  The Powercommander lies to the ECM to get it to do things and this is inherently something I have an issue with.

Post a dyno sheet lets see how the fuel curve looks and go from there.

Bud,

The green run looks good, but without a fuel curve its hard to make any comments other than the green run is by far the overall best.

What you must remember is if the bike wasnt up to temp before they even started the first runs are then a farce .....

HARRY,
WHEN YOU SAY MY PIPES ARE THE PROBLEM. IS IT MY MUFFLERS OR THE HEADER PIPES?
IF IT IS MUFFLERS, TOO MUCH RESTRICTION, NOT ENOUGH BACK PRESSURE, EXPLAIN PLEASE?
NOT REAL FOND OF THE SOUND OF BUBS, LOVE THE V AND H. STREET SWEEPERS.
PERHAPS SOMEONE HAS SAME SETUP AND CAN TELL ME WHICH MAP IS PROVIDING MORE HP.
NOT REAL SURE I UNDERSTAND THE HARLEY DOWNLOAD THAT YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT, PLEASE EXPLAIN.
AM I SETUP TO CHANGE REV LIMITER OR IS THIS ANOTHER PURCHASE THAT I NEED TO MAKE?
ARE THERE ANY SUPER TUNERS IN THE ST LOUIS AREA THAT CAN PROVIDE ME WITH ------------ SATISFACTION-------

THANKS HARRY,

Well bud,

The issue is tuning on the stock pipe its not stepped it is setup that way to give backpressure to your motor like a 2 into 1 would only with a power commander you can only toon for 1 cyclinder and this is not a pipe that affords that well vs a 2 into 1 or a true dual since you can not put a sniffer up into the 2nd pipe easily anyhow it would take a lot to do it.

You would have to purchase a harley download to get a rev limiter upgrade then on top of that you would have to then pay again to have bike redyno'd .. as the dyno you have is based off the base ECM from Factory and you would be changing that base a bit by putting in the download hence double purchase on dyno time.

Your in kind of a pickle here take your chance that the powercommander doesnt go bad and if it does pay for the towing or rethink what your doing.

If you need further clarification or would like to talk email me at unbalanced@bellsouth.net

Thanks,

those are GOOD dyno #'s.
dyno #'s don't mean jack!!!!
as long as the bike runs good thats all that matters.
if you want more power, thats something else.
but for the set up that you have those #'s are fine.

my Bro Beags tells me that the Power Commander does not let you up the rpm's on the rev limiter. That being the case your hp number would be down. Your torque number is good. IMHO the Big Sucker breather is too much for the rest of your combination, but if it works ok then don't eff with it. In the end do care more about what's on a piece of paper or what your butt tells you ? You're never gonna win any dyno shootouts with a CVO 103. They weren't intended for that.

Spider, let Beagle know that as of just a few weeks ago Power Commander finally released their option to up the rev limiter.  He can check it out here:  http://www.powercommander.com/hdRev.shtml
