Sirius Radio Question
« on: May 16, 2010, 06:50:55 PM »

OK Bear with me....Bought a Sirius for the wifes car, she broke it, got another one and only used the unit itself, wanting to set up the bike with remaining wires and such and just transfer her unit to the bike when we ride.  Has anyone done this ?  Is it hard to do ?  Any info appreciated.... Oh it's on a SESG 2010...
Thanks

There are many different radios or radio modules out there that receive sat radio.  What do you have?

Where there is willingness to make something work one usually can of course.  But just found imagery of this on eBay and it wouldn't be my choice for bike use.

The radio appears to require a docking unit; that's pretty good sized.  Neither radio nor dock are weather tight.  That's always a problem for bike use.  A very quick look didn't find any kind of a handlebar mount that was intended for the docking unit (though such things can usually be created if need be).  And there'd be a fair bit of exposed cabling.

Someone may have fought this ship with better results.  An initial look at the parts, however, doesn't make it look like an especially effective bike option.

I did a similar setup on my 03 however the XM radio i used didn't mount to a dock, it clipped into a bracket and you plugged in the power plug and audio cable individually. This made it easy to move between vehicles.

Used similar set up on my 06 Ultra. Run a 12v plug into glove box on left lower from lighter plug in fairing. Aux jack and satellite antenna along engine guard into fairing. Antenna velcroed to inner fairing lip next to windshield with wire going into fairing in the small gap at windshield. Aux cable though throttle wire hole in inner fairing, plug into radio. Only problem was had to reach into lower glove box to change station. Never got wet except a couple times when I was washing the bike and forgot to remove it from the cradle. Just let it dry out a couple hours and it was always ok. Sorry no pictures, traded that bike for CVO but I'm sure you can see what I'm talking about.
