Progressive Monotubes in an 05 SEEG.
« on: May 25, 2010, 03:56:09 PM »

The Progressive Monotubes front suspension was installed today in Nancy's SEEG.
It took about 3 hours to complete.
I have had the kit for a week but was waiting on Progressive to ship the 1/2" spacers.
The best I can tell the kits were made originally without the 1/2" spacers and so many customers complained about losing a 1/2" in height that they now come standard in the kits. So if you get a kit without the spacers just call Frank at Progressive and he will send them to you.
I also had shipped the rear 440 shocks back to Progressive to be rebuilt. The 440's have a lifetime warranty (to original customer) on the shocks and with 40K miles on them it was rebuild time.

The ride has improved dramatically. From stock to this is a night and day difference. I purchased the standard height kit as opposed to the 1" lower kit. On this bike I was looking for cornering clearance and the standard height Progressive system has made all the difference from stock. I rode the bike about a 100 miles this afternoon and every aspect of the ride has improved. Compared to stock there is no comparison. I see this as a must do for any of our bikes. It's just a matter of time before the 09SEUC and the 01SERG get the same treatment.

Some will ask how it rides in comparison to the Traxxion front end treatment. Traxxion is the best of the very best. I have had 2 bikes Traxxion equipped. After the 100 miles on the SEEG w/Progressive Monotubes I took the 03 Traxxion equipped bike for a ride. Traxxion wins but the Progressive is very close. Very close! The Traxxion wins until you factor in the cost. Traxxion cost approx $1,450.00 per bike installed. The total cost of the Progressive Monotube system installed on the 05 SEEG will be less than $500.00. I tried the Progressive on the SEEG knowing that if they were as good as advertised I could wind up with the 09SEUC, the 05SEEG and the 01SERG Progressive equipped for basically the same cost as one Traxxion equipped bike. I like it when a plan comes together.

I can't wait for Nancy to try it out. If I could just keep up with her I'd love to see the smile on her face!  ;)

Good, bad or indifferent most everything gets questioned here.
changing  your shocks can be as easy as you make it, or as hard.
Good luck and don't be surprised if your questioned about why you changed them.
That's the way it works here.

Damn  ::)

Pictures of what?
The bike sits an inch higher.
You want a picture of that?
I will have to clean it up.
Part of the 100 miles was in the rain.
But for you I will, if you want them.

Greg

I cleaned it up from the rain earlier.
I parked it outside.
Went inside to get the camera, damn raining again.
So you get a picture with it in the garage.
Normally it goes on the lift but I wanted Nancy to sit on it in the garage since it was raining.

Did you do the 04 SEEG with the 12" Traxxion front end or the 13"?
Both of the 03's were 13" and I did Nancy's SEEG with the 13" front end.

SBB,

The 05 SEEG's come from the factory with 1" shorter forks.  How did you fit standard length monotubes with spacers in her?  I also have a 05 SEEG and did the lowered monotubes with 3 of the spacers per the instructions.  Ride is so much better over stock!  My bike sits just a bit lower now, but only noticable with a tape measure.

The std (13") kit fits in the stock legs on a SEEG.
The springs are the difference.

I used to have the same '05 SEEG in teal. The scarcest CVO Touring bike ever. The conversion you made is the single best improvement to this wonderful bike. My '05 had many issues with the front not being stable, and we tried almost anything then available (different springs to bring it to stock height, heavy fork oil etc.) with only little success. If the Monotubes would have been available at my time, I am sure I would have never let go of the bike.

Ride safely,
Louis
