Rear Fender Service Bulletin
« on: June 07, 2010, 08:08:11 PM »

Pool boy is at it again.  :rolleyes3:  He claims there is a recent service bulletin out about OEM seats leaving dent around the area where the seat tab rests against the fender.

Anybody have a copy????  :confused5:

Thanks,

Howie

Howie,

This happened on my SERK and left two hex imprints in the paint with ever so slight dimples.

I took out the hex bolts and countersunk the chrome seat bracket for flathead Allen bolts.  I then put a stick on rubber bumper like the thin ones used on lamps and such.  That took care of the future problems, but the damage was already done.

I could have blamed the BSR, but I think she'd slap me or something.  But hey, I may like it...  ;D  ;D  ;D

My SERG does not have this issue..... YET!

I had my seat rails put on at the dealership two Saturdays ago and the seat was still gapping badly.  I had put my short original seat tab bracket back on so it was like the factory sent it out.  He has a new seat ordered for me and when I finally get the right "look" for fit, I'll flathead my bracket as I did before.

I thought I posted it a year or so ago in the SERK forum, but maybe I just remember thinking about doing it.  At my age it's hard to tell the difference...

Just checked NHTSA and nothing there (yet) that sounds like what you're looking for Howie.

Haven't seen a bulletin yet, but I would imagine, based on previous problems, that the story goes something like this:

1.  Problem, we don't see no stinkin' problem!

2.  We don't know anything about any problem, must be customer abuse.

3.  Cheap Chinese mounting tab doesn't match shape of fender.  Chinese tab to be replaced by Indonesian tab.

4.  Cheap Indonesian tab doesn't fix problem.  We'll get back to you.

5.  Sagging seat causes angle of tab to change as weight is applied, thus causing tab to dent fender.  Special Owner Satisfaction Upgrade Program initiated, which includes seat to frame bumpers and a 90 day membership for Weight Watchers.

6.  Go buy a plastic washer to space the tab up from the fender at the mounting screw, and don't call us any more.
