Riding Boots with Inside Zipper
« on: June 08, 2010, 05:59:01 PM »

After a short two years...the heel on my left boot has worn down. I understand the Harley boots cannot be repaired...is that true?

I have the short H-D version with the zipper on the inside. I really like this style...easy to put on and take off...but have not found anything similar from a different company. Any recommendations?

Harley Boots can be resoled.

But if you want a similar syle boot, much more comfortable and less than half that of a Harley boot, click on this link....I'm just going to warn you ahead of time.....you'll throw all your other boots away......          http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=35421.0

I can't remember Fired00d. Probably from another 'not so helpful' website.  :-X

Glad to hear they can be resoled. Just a bit annoyed they wore so quickly.

No harm, no foul ;).. Try taking them to a shoe repair shop and see what they say.... may not get the same heel/sole you have now, but they should be able to do something. :2vrolijk_21:

I've had a couple of shops tell me they couldn't resole these boots with Vibram lug soles and heels.  Look for the older cobbler shops that have their share of boots being repaired......they'll get them done. :2vrolijk_21:

Not sure why we'd want an inside zipper. Just something else to scratch up the bike. I've never had a pair of zippered boots but my next pair will be. Per JC's evaluations the SWATs look like the winner. BTW, I've had H.D. boots re-soled.

I also had wondered and had been concerned about that. :nervous: I do have boots that have zippers (speed laces) where the normal laces are.

The SWAT boots have a plastic zipper so they don't scratch.  On JC's recommendation, I bought them several years ago and won't wear any other boots now.  They're light, comfortable, the zippers don't break, and they last.

O.K. this statement is puzzling to me.  If you're rubbing your boots on your bike......you don't need a zipper to scratch the bike. :nixweiss:  Personally, my boots don't touch anything but my floorboards, shifters and brake pedal.

On the other hand......my wife's bike constantly has rubber on the exhaust (I think it's from her heel).  But I've never saw any scratches that would be from her Original Swat boots.  It took me two years to talk her into trying them.  Now she tells other women "they're the most ugly boot you'll ever put on..............and the most comfortable".

There comes a time when comfort prevails over the look good. :2vrolijk_21:

Agreed w/ that. I surely don't try to rub boots, chaps or anything else on the bike. But, chit happens sometimes. Just saying, like chaps, I'd think a zipper on the outside would be a better set up. And, the wife's very good about not catching saddlebags when mounting/dismounting BUT - -

I'm speaking/thinking of accidentally rubbing the side of the boot against something and zippers/zipper pull having a sharper edge then leather and causing a scratch. Probability is slim, but the possibility (IMO) might exist to do/cause more damage then leather could. :nixweiss:
