thinking about a used Road Glide. Curious what you all think about the build and the price. The dealer that it is at says it is still under warranty, with the engine mods and removal of stock exhaust, is warranty going to be a problem? NO STOCK PARTS come with the bike.

What do you think of:

dependability
price

$33K + tax + Fee's = $35-$36K

I dont know how pricing runs in your area, but in depressed Michigan that bike on trade in would be worth maybe $27,000, your paying a bunch for upgrades that add very little resale value, if the bikes is exactly what your seeking and it runs as good as it looks only you can decide whats a fair price.

I'm willing to bet when they took it in on trade they told the guy that the stuff he did to it didn't add much if any value, and now are trying to get more out of it by saying look what it has had done to it.  That seems like a high price compared to a new one.  Are the things it has something you would have done to a stock one?  By that I mean - are those THE wheels you would have gotten, is that THE exhaust you like?

As far as the warranty, it's largely up to the dealer, and it's only good for a few more months so it may be a moot point.  Any of those engine mods is grounds for rejection as far as the factory is concerned.  Unless you have a history with this guy, remember he's trying to sell you the bike.  If you can get it in writing that the warranty stands intact as he's selling the bike, great.  Otherwise it's just words.  Whenever I asked if something I was contemplating had any effect on it, all I heard was, "It could".   I don't go there anymore.

Agree'd, they probably hosed the dude on the trade in, and are trying to hose me on the sale. Here in California these bikes bring a good price. Say I could get one stock for $30K with tax, could I duplicate what is done for $5k? Like the wheels, love the front fender, tour pac, engine mods, other little stuff, I don't know. The next trick is finding a stock one for that price.

Can't tell for sure but those calipers look like PM's :nixweiss: the rotor is definitely not stock it's matching the wheels.

I have drooled over this bike twice now since seeing it listed on Ebay.

If this bike was not on the other side of the country I would have bought it already. I like all the mods and can appreciate the $$$ put into this bike. I have an 08 SERK that I got last year, I was on the fence about buying a new silver SERG at the time and ended up going for the used 08 SERK. I have a guy who wants my bike and I have been looking at SERGS and there is nothing even cose to a deal in my area. Boston HD has all three colors used at their dealership, only kicker is they want $32K for them, USED!!

I'm looking to find one around $26K, they are out there, just nothing close enought to make sense for me. In the mean time, I love my SERK so I will be just fine waiting until the right one pops up.

No matter what this salesman says, the factory warranty on the powertrain is gone.  The only way they could have Harley cover a repair under warranty would be by submitting a fraudulent claim and hoping it slips by.  Little stuff might in fact slip by, but the the major stuff you're probably more worried about tends to generate questions and demands for proof and often visits by a serice rep to verify the problem.  That S&S cam and other mods would probably throw up a big red flag for even a semi-competent rep.  If you decide to do it, you need to get a warranty from the dealer in writing (and signed by an officer of the dealership, not an employee they can disavow later).  Don't forget, there is no factory warranty on any of the other mods either.  I would view this purchase as if it was already beyond the expiration of the factory warranty, and base my negotiations on that.

As for what it's worth, that's strictly in the eye of the beholder.  If the mods are things you would have done yourself, and you really like them, then the price isn't out of line IMHO.  Between the wheels, brakes, and engine work you're probably looking at $5k minimum to duplicate it.  The wheels alone retail for over $1600 apiece. Then another $1k for the TourPak, and I have no idea on the fender but with custom paint it probably wasn't cheap.  Don't forget, the original MSRP was $31k before freight and taxes and fees and BS like prep.  Considering that, $33k doesn't look bad at all, at least with the information at hand.

If it were me, I'd want to go over it in person, take an extensive test ride, and get an iron clad guarantee from the dealer to cover the entire bike (no BS verbal assurances), including the mods, for at least the rest of this year.

The last owner might have already had engine issues with that 110. I bet the dealer refused to warrenty it, then traded with him at a really low trade-in value, then had their mechanics fix it and now asking top dollar...

The bike looks great and the mods do make a significant dollar increase. I agree with the other opinions the mods are only worth it if you like the way the bike is set up. You could however buy the bike and sell the parts you don't like and buy the one's you do. You won't get the same dollars as the new parts cost but you could get 75 cents on the dollar for the wheels and exhaust etc.

With respect to the engine mods and warranty it really depends on whether the mods were done at the time the bike was bought brand new and if installed by the dealer. You also should be able to get the dealer to pull the service records based on the vin # to see what has problems the bike may have had.

I'm not as willing to say the dealer is trying to stick it to you or they are selling a unfit machine. The dealers in my area seem to be very concerned about the used inventory they sell and do not want to sell something that is a problem or had problems. This is a CVO bike. Harleys top of the line. There is no benefit to Harley or the dealer to sell a lemon.

Sorry Rodney, but that isn't true.  The only engine mods that are covered by the factory warranty are the street legal kits that Harley sells (like the 103 or 110 Stage I big bore kits in the catalog).  That's where the "if the dealer installs it at time of purchase" verbage comes from.  I'm 100% certain H-D isn't going to warrant an engine with S&S cams in it, no matter who installed them or when.

Jerry...I guess that really depends on who your dealer is and the relationship with the dealer.
