Samson true duals
« on: February 18, 2006, 03:26:58 PM »

I had my heart set on Rineharts, but after hearing three different bikes with them on, I don't think I would really like that much noise over the long hual. Does anyone have any experience or know of anyone running Samson's true duals with the stealth mufflers ? How is there fit and finish ? Are they any louder than stock ? Do they show any performance improvement ? I figure that I would still need a race tuner and Big Sucker air filter. I had my wife convinced that the Rineharts would be OK but I really think that they would wear you down on a long trip. I still like to hear the radio.

Where you riding behind the bikes w/Rineharts or have you ridden a bike with Rineharts? I think this will make a difference. Pipes seem to be louder when you ride behind them versus when you ride the bike with those pipes on them. I have Rineharts on my bike, and I have no trouble hearing radio (and I'm using the stock speakers at present time, but will be getting Hogtunes eventually). I have ridden behind bikes that had the Rolling Thunder mufflers by Sampson and they sounded loud from behind, but can't say what they sounded like as a rider.

I think to make the most informed decision you should ride a bike w/the pipes you are intended to buy to get the best evaluation for those pipes. Hope this helps.

To be honest, I was just standing beside the bikes. It's colder than heck around here right now. The wife and I visited two dealerships near here and had them start the bikes up. They sounded awesome. All three of the bikes were inside buildings, which I'm sure made them sound louder than they are. All three bikes were Ultras with the rear speakers, so I don't know if riding them would give a good indication of being able to hear just the front speakers. The mufflers from Samson that I'm curious about are the Stealth's. They are supposed to be quiet performance mufflers. Advertised as 25% quieter than their normal performance mufflers. Thanks for the response.

Mufflers and pipes are the most devistating items you can ever want, let me tell you i have had some of all i think...SE touring and SE performance,Basani pipes with SE performance on my 03 and i love the Basani pipes,,the fit is perfect in every way,,,just dont like the SE mufflers
so much,,,,,but let me tell you what i did on my 05 SEEG i bought the samson caliber system and love the fit of the pipes,,the fit is perfect but the mufflers SUCK as far as looks goes, the mufflers are 3 inch and hang down a inch farther than the stock and look like chit,,but i got me a set of rineharts and fixed the looks up and i swear the dammmmm thing will fly now,,,,just to let you know the samson pipes are 2 inch and the rhineharts have to be 2 inch too... i lucked out and found the rineharts on ebay....i also tried the D and D on the 05 and the rineharts true dual system on the 03, i am going to get me a set of the rineharts and put on the basani pipes later on to....good luck  .

Stihlone,

You may want to really ride on a bike that has the rineharts the 2 1/4" baffles vs the 2 1/2" I have never had a problem hearing the stereo or them wearing you out.   While the 2 1/2's are much louder, I would tell you to consider them with the Freedom ones.   Other than the bassani I have owned a set of most of them out there and other than if you're looking for a 2 into 1 you won't go wrong with Rinehart / or Freedoms.

Standing beside / riding on top of are really different.

just my 2 cents,

The new Rinehart ad says that they put out 96 Db at 2500 RPM. I wish there was an industry standard so that you could compare apples to apples. But, I guess that would give the consumer too much of an edge. Thanks for all the replys. Still no one with Samson Stealth Muffler experience ?

While I don't have any first hand experience with the Stealth mufflers, I have heard many complaints about the Sampson true duals. Need mods to fit, poor chrome, etc.  My advice would be to use something that's known to fit good like the V&H duals, and put the stealth mufflers on them.

Thanks, that's helpful info. I noticed in the Samson ad, the stealth mufflers hang a little lower. Could be just a poor picture. You guys are tilting me back towards the Rineharts.

Get the freedoms. They have more performance, are not as loud as rineharts, until you get on it.

I ordered the Rineharts yesterday and intend to have it installed next week. I'm going with the Big Sucker and race tuner.

70 GTX, man I would'ev had to go with the the Freedom package. Just seems to be a simple, easy, dyno tested, warrantyed, way to go 8-)

I guess, the main  reason I didn't go with the Freedom package was that I don't know enough about it. The website shown in another thread doesn't show the system on a bike. I couldn't visualize what it would look like. Nobody at the shops around here knew what I was talking about when I asked around. No bikes to see or listen to. The other thread here talks about complications and some vibrations. The complication part is probably not a problem if your tuner is knowledgeable about the package. I guess my location here hinders some of my options. We've got guys that work on combines around here not bikes. And, when I was asking about systems in this thread, nobody was singing its praises with any definite examples.
