Vance & Hines Fuel Pak or HD Performance Tuner?
« on: June 13, 2010, 04:11:13 PM »

I am getting ready to put on a set of Vance & Hines Power Duals with High Output Slip-ons.  Which tuner would you recommend, the Vance & Hines Fuel Pak or HD's performance tuner?

Neither.  I would recommend that you check around locally for a good dyno tuner and get a custom tune using the device he recommends.

The FuelPak is very limited.  It only makes slight fuel adjustments when the ECM is not in closed loop mode, which is not very often.  I have a 2007 Heritage along with an 09 SERG.  On the Heritage I first put SE slipons and the fuelpak and everything was fine.  Bike ran well and no issues.  Then, I changed the exhaust system to the V&H Double Barrel Longs.  The bike runs great but I have a lot of decel popping.  This is V&H pipes, Fuelpak, and their "map" for exactly my setup which is a TC 96 stock with Stage 1 air filter.  No other mods.  Anyway they gave me a few adjustment suggestions for the codes you type into the FuelPak but told me there isn't anything they can do.  They said decel popping on some exhaust systems can't be tuned out a FuelPak alone.  So I said then why did you sell me the exhaust system when you knew it would decel pop on my bike?  I got the "every bike is different" story.

There are too many other easy options these days that are better than the FuelPak.

I did the same pipes and currently have no tuner.  The bike runs awesome!  It is even a step-up over stock due to the free flowing (i.e. cat-less) pipes.  Due to some tuning issues the dealer did try the fuel pack but said it performed better without.  I will eventually have it tuned and probably use the tuner that the tuner recommends.  For right now I'm just enjoying the heck out of the ride and even without a tune, the temp seems to be fine.  Enjoy. . . . .   :drink:

No one recommends the Power Commander PCIII ??

New guy,  2005 fltri V&H pipes and Will install a full backplate and filter kit prior to install ecm...I have ruled out Fuel pack, I don't know where else to turn except PC... SUPPORT IS IMPORTANT TO ME.. PC is a little lacking on that issue as is most of American Business..
