Let's talk seats
« on: June 14, 2010, 10:26:48 AM »

I lowered my seuc5 with the low profile sesg shocks. That lowered the rear 1" which is just right for me. So height is not necessarily my goal. Love the comfortabilities of stock seat. However, in the looks department it is not to appealing. Is it possible to have both? Not loose comfort and get a good looking seat? Tried a 2010 sg seat yesterday. It was awful.

I am looking to lower my ultra5 also, I am considering have my seat cut down, reshaped, may add a gel pack... and if that's not enough my change the shocks to reduce seat height. I sat on an ultra at the dealership with the front and rear suspension lowered with a reach seat and it was a lot more comfortable than mine, but not sure I want to drop the front, I like the the tail dragger look. So does anyone have any good advise on a getting a seat reworked and pro's and cons on gel packs?

I contacted Mean City Cycles. Asked about cutting down and or adding jell or pad. They said there is nothing they would do or recommend for the hammock seat on the seuc. Still searching for the perfect seat for looks and function.

RCamp,
I have anj 08 FLHTCUSE3
I also installed lowering shocks on rear, pull back handlebars.
I am 6 ft 1 inch around 190 lbs.
I like the lowered ride, and closer to the bars as well.
On my Stock Seat:
a.) had a trim shop shave down sides, and carve out an area for gel pads to be inserted for rider & passenger.
This lowered the seat further, and my legs were more comfortable with carving down the sides, more stability at stops, as well as the ride.
b.) Good points of having gel pads inserted into seat........more comfortable.........when heated seats are on it actually does a better job, it actually heats the gel pads.
c.) Not-So-Good points..................If you leave your bike in the sun on a hot day, make sure to cover your seats, it heats up the gel pads under the seat and stays Real Hot for quite a while.
d.) I also threw out the Stock Back Rest, too hard, and purchased one of the other options available thru HD.

Good Luck!!!!

You can not use a 08 or seat in place of 09 or 10, the bottom is different.

Are you sure ?
The '08 seat is different (more higher) than the '09 and '10 but I think they are interchangeable.

FLHCTUSE3 FLHTCUSE4 AND FLHTCUSE5 seats are interchangeable.  Have already verified this with Harley Dealer.  Also I have a FLHTCUSE3 seat on my FLHTCUSE4.  Seat fits perfect.  And yes the bottom doesn't look identical but who cares,  the seat fits like a glove.

Good to hear.  Monday I ordered a FLHTCUSE3 seat.  Hated to pay the $$ but got tired of the seat on the 2010.  Everyone seems to like the 2008 seat. Hope I do too.

Bluegoose,
You may want to keep your backrest if it works, the seat on my 08 works well after having it slightly modified, but the B.R. is not very comfortable.

Thanks - I appreciate it.  I should have the new seat next week.

A friend of mine has the 2008 Cuse with the stock seat. The stitching cam apart and we were surprised to see a gel pad already installed, stock. Did you add more gel on top of the gel or did yours not have any?

So what is the difference between the 08 vs 10 seats, I'm looking at making some changes also.
