I have an 06 seuc 103.  The other day i put in the 07 and up cam plate, new style oil pump, woods tw5 cam and woods lifters.  The bike runs good through all the rpms.  But after about 50-60 miles for some reason between 2800-3200 rpm i get vibrations and noise.  If i am below it or above it don't really notice it.  It happens while riding or sitting still at those rpms.  I went through the push rods and checked them again, checked the primary chain tension.  Put a screwdriver on it and tried listening and don't really hear anything out of the ordinary.  It didn't really do this noise before the cams.  I don't really hear anything from the cam side.  seems like its coming from the primary side but who knows with the way noises travel.  Kinda stumped and don't really want to be blowing something up with some new noise.

Well took everything apart again.  Can't find anything wrong anywhere.  Guess they are just loud cams at that rpm.  Guess i will run it till it starts making the loud knocking noise so will be able to see what blew up.lol.

If these are Geardrive cams are you sure they are shimmed properly?  Too loose and too tight will both cause noises.   Did you check runout on the crank at the crank and the end of the shaft ?

They are not gear drive they are the hydraulic chain tensioners like the 07 and up bikes.  i checked the crank run out also.  I believe on my shims the front cam is the .100 and the rear is .120 to get your 2 gears to be lined up from crank and cam.

Think i figured out the problem today.  My rear exhaust lifter decided to go out.  I guess 50 miles is all it had in it.  Still wierd that the noise is only bad between 2800-3200 rpm.  But sometimes at an idle till it gets pumped up it makes a terrible valve train noise then goes away.  Hopefully i can get some sort or replacement.

May just have a piece of crud in it. Cleaning and inspection is not a problem. They do get hung especially after the motor is opened up.

I did take it out and look at it but didn't disasemble it.

You can take it apart and very carefully clean and inspect the components then reassemble with motor oil lube on the components or just buy a new one. Many a bad lifter is just a piece of crud hung in there and not really wear or failed components

Ya i figured i would do that.  its just really wierd with the noise.  Get over 3200 rpm quiet as can be can't hear anything.  but between 2800-3200 sounds terrible.  No clue what could be causing that.

I don't think so since I am not sure what your talking about. Have to explain. Everyone is welcome to give their opinions. I don't take it wrong. Need all the help I can get.

from what i know the tw5 is a 575 lift....if i remember thats to much for tc stock valve springs.....coil bind is where the valve spring coils touch and can cause noise and or lifter failure

I didn't check all that stuff cause everyone said it was a bolt in for the 103. I Have the se 103 heads also.

i think the 103 head will handle that lift.....i had one not long ago ....pulled it down and found front piston turned around.....made a terrible noise at 2500 rpm...sounded aweful at a steady criuse

Dang that sucks. I will have to pull my front one down also. Think oil is coming in from the head. The bike runs great. Just sounds terrible at your normal riding range. I will Just get used to it I guess.  I wear earplugs on my pan on my long trips.  Amazing how you are Not as wore out from.the wind with them. Just when you pull them out and hear the motor wonder how it runs making all that noise. LOL.
