Bitubos Installation 2010 CVO Ultra
« on: June 22, 2010, 06:58:13 PM »

Finally got around to putting on the Bitubos I bought off one of the members of the board, forgot the name.

Anyway after reading some of the past post, I started thinking holy crap what have I got myself into. Does the nitrogen cartridge go forward, backward, up top or one the bottom. Will the saddle bags fit again without mods.

Phoned Dan at Traxxion Dynamics, after a two minute conversation. Went on to the task of installing them, nitrogen canister facing rear on the bottom, saddle bags went back with a lot of clearance, all done.

Now to test drive and set up.

After reading a ton of info from this site on Traxxion Dynamics, and needing an improvement in overall suspension, I bit the bullet and went with the Ak 20's and Bitubo rear shocks.  The first chance I had to put some miles on them was for the So Cal GTG at Pala Casino.  First impression was WOW!!! and it only got better as wife and I got a chance to handle some twisties and ride some "less than perfect" So Cal roads.

This set up is as good as so many of you mentioned.  Since I installed the front and rear at the same time, it's hard to say if either is better than the other.  But I will say, as a set, it is awesome.  On roads where BSR would previously get jostled hard (and call me a few endearing names), she floated through them and actually had a much more enjoyable trip.

Thanks to all for the great (and honest) assessments of TD products.  There are many products out there that will improve the stock ride, but in my book I will have AK 20's and Bitubo's on any future bike I own.

FYI, there are also several posts about how difficult these are to set up.  We followed the suggested guideline for Sag on the spring length (preload) with bsr and luggage estimated, but within the suggested tolerances.  The damping adjustment for both extension and compression was set in the middle.  This was the only adjustment I made from the initial factory set up and, quite honestly, I don't think I need (or want) to adjust it any differently.  I will probably play with it to see if it can be fine tuned, but can't imagine it being much better.

Just took delivery of my new Bitubo shocks yesterday.  Geezerglide what settings did you finally use?  Also interested in others settings after putting some miles on.  We ride 2up about 70% of the time.  I'm 195lbs with my bride around 150.  Thanks for the tips!

Did you get them from Traxxion?  If so, they should have come already set with the correct preload, which is the most critical of the three adjustments.  Rebound and compression dampening is set by trial and error, based on the feel you are looking for.  I ended up with the rebound dampening at the softest position and the compression dampening set smack in the center.  I'm 240 and mostly ride solo.  For two-up riding or a load, a couple more clicks toward hard of compression damping and I'm good to go.

I love, love, love these shocks.  Good luck getting them set up for you.

I can attest to the front AK-20's by traxxion - I have a pretty long write up somewhere on this site and others about them. They have been nothing but awesome on my 2009 SERG. I have Ohlins 3-3 in the rear though. Both Biturbo's and Ohlins are some of the best shock's you can get for our Harley's - these are great upgrades. Enjoy the ride.
