Lowering affects the lean angle adversely. Lower parts to drag the sooner they will drag. Even lowered slightly you still have plenty of Lean to have a great time in the corners, just might be a couple of MPH slower than a non lowered bike. You can put better suspension on front and rear (that doesn't sag under the bikes weight) and if it's lowered an inch or so but doesn't sag you end up at about the same. The HD suspensions are too soft on the ultra and compress too much especially in corners when G forces are acting on them. A set-up like Traxxion and Bitubos will correct this and IMHO even an inch lower will give an IMPROVED "ride"   Not exactly inexpensive but at this level what is?

Progressive Monotubes offer a dramatic performance increas without quite the expense of BiTubos.
They also offer a 1" to 2" lowering set.

Thanks for the suspension responses guys!

I have been on a quest for getting my exhaust and tuning dialed in for the last week.  I called Roeders and they said I would benefit from a tune with the stock pipe.  When I got there they noted the cat and that it would need to be removed.  Considering the costs for labor to mod my pipe, I thought it might be better to go with a different pipe since I planned to eventually anyway.  I wasn't prepared to decide on a pipe that quick so I went back home.  :(

After some consideration I decided to go with the Vance and Hines Power dual.  I wanted the Fuel Moto SS pipe but they are back ordered 10 weeks!! I got on the list so I may still get it later because I really like the stock look and the Jackpot pipe maintains that.

I have the Vance and Hines basic slip ons with 2.25 in baffles and they sound pretty good to me, but may be a bit loud for long trip.  They sound deep with a little ching on the top of the sound.  Doc told me I would get better throttle response with 2 in baffles but they are not offered from VH for this slip on. I think they have a 1.5 in tho but I am not sure they fit this muffler.  I will check.

I have the stock muffs comin back to me from the previous owner but they won't be back in time to get some fullsax or something to mod them.

I am taking it to a tuner he recommends that is somewhat near me to be dialed in next Tuesday.  I am very excited to be getting this done.  THing is if I want to change the sound in anyway, this is the time to do it.

Any ideas for something different muffler wise that would be cool with the power duals?

Blessings!

Dennis

you may want to consider the new ThunderMax EFI Tuner for the 2010 model, if you haven't already.  Good comments within CVOHarley. com, and highly recommended by several mechanics I have spoke with.

Yea I fluctuate between what I want to do, and I have considered that, but I will need a pipe with the larger bungs up high and  if I have another outfit send another pipe back that I ordered, I think my picture will be on every shop wall saying: Beware!! Flake!!  :-)

But, I want to get something done relatively quickly...  the bike is still in stock tune with slip ons and big breather.

Dennis,
I put the jackpot pipes, the power commander 5 and new head pipes on mine and it made a big improvement.  Also the sound is nice and not too loud on the trips!

Good luck

Thanks!

Well i think I am gonna go with VH Monster rounds on the power duals, as long as they come in stock.  They are 94 db as opposed to the 101 db of the basics I have now, but I think the addition  of the power duals at the same time might make them a little closer to the volume I have now.  AND, they produce more power gains than the basics I have now
