HOT TOPPERS!!
« on: June 30, 2010, 06:20:50 PM »

Do they sell a Hot Topper kit for 09SEUC? What is everyone else using? Is there something better and cheaper than HotToppers? Previous owners had put them on our RKC's did not know how much they improved the looks of the stock bolts. Mystery to me why MOCO did not use Chrome bolts or covers to start with. I know, I know they can make $$$ from us.

Yes, they make a kit for your bike.  I have them on mine and haven't lost one in 2 years since putting them on.  Contact the company directly.  I actually talked to the owner when I called.  Great guy and you get a lifetime warranty on replacement toppers if you lose a few over the years.

1sharprdkg, I have installed a set on my 09 SEUC (silver). The part number is HTD157. It comes with 116 pieces and is really easy to install. I got mine off Ebay for a lot cheaper then the dealer wanted. I think they are great. I have some on my 95 Heritage that have been on it since it was new and they still look great. However, don't use the ones they give you for the lower part of the front motor mount, they will deform from the heat. I put some metal covers on there I got from the auto parts store. The kit has good directions and helps you install them in an orderly fashion. I took my time and I think it took me less than 45 minutes to do the whole thing. You will love the difference. Plus you can remove them and reinstall them if you need to take something apart. CAHDBIKER

They really add to the look of the bike.  I had quite a few left over since I have the Kurakyn covers on the transmission and inner primary.  I found quite a few spots to put them that weren't listed on the instructions.  Many of them will require using some silicone, and even though they seem like they're going to be too big, and that they'll fall off, they are quite secure on there.  I thought for sure that after the first ride, there would be several missing.  Not one has fallen off.

Why not go to chrome socket head bolts, or better yet, chrome 12 points bolts from Garner-Wescot. The 12 point set covers all but the 5 long primary bolts. They are smooth chrome socket head, and are down so low most will never see them.

Chrome bolts can be a problem.....

I would recommend polished stainless steel bolts, even though not the same "grade". (stainless bolts are not grade 8 )

Chroming makes the bolts the wrong size and is subject to pealing/cracking.

Toppers are cheap way of improving zinc plated bolts.

I never put threaded connections together without chasing the threads. Chrome, powder coat or new. The first two are obvious, and the last will keep you from screwing up some tapped hole somewhere. Re-threaders are cheap insurance.

I guess that I feel that "cheap" and $30k do not belong together.

You would think the MOCO could give us the polished stainless steel 12 point bolts when spending  30K - 36K ?

I do not even care if they raised the price $200.00 if they gave us that Bone.......

It cost me at least that to change them......
