Warranty transfer
« on: February 22, 2006, 08:51:07 PM »

Does anyone know the form that you use to transfer the 24 month factory warranty that comes with the bikes new? I bought mine used and havent done it  yet. I tried to get one from a dealer and the salesman looked at me like I just asked him to split an atom. I would imagine the finance manager would have it but thought I'd try this form first. It hasnt failed me yet. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Yep, you're going to have to go back to the dealership.  Here in Sac. we have to pay $50 to transfer it.  I was told that's standard but not sure.

CVOwner,

Funny this subject has come up on a couple of threads the last couple of days...

I don't know if there is a big difference between the 24 month standard warranty transfer and the Harley extended warranty. But, when I bought my '99 FXR2 last April the original owner had obtained a transfer form from the extended warranty office (they mailed it to him). It had a year left on it. I mailed the form in with my info and didn't give it any other thoughts.

Then, a couple of weeks ago, I noticed some oil weeping from both the front and rear rocker box gaskets. Also there was a small leak in the upper side of the outer primary gasket. So, Saturday I took the bike in and dropped it off to get the work done. I gave them all the warranty info (which doesn't expire until the end of March).

Then, late this afternoon, my stealership's service guy calls and says the the Harley extended warranty people say that the warranty transfer was never done. He wants me to call them and straighten it out. I call, and of course after getting multiple computer generated voice menus, the office is closed! So, I'll start calling again tomorrow.

I started a thread last week (on the General CVO discussion), that's a little lower down below the one you started. I'm going to post most of the info onto there as well....as it's probably going to be an ongoing saga... >:(

It's just disappointing that the only experience I have with trying to get warranty work done at HD is this (and that's amazing considering I have a '99 roadking that had the ol' style ball bearing cam bearings).  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Good luck and keep us posted...

CVOwner and JCZ,

Additionally, when I filled out and mailed in the transfer request on the Harley extended warranty, there was no transfer fee. Thinking back on it, I wish there was....I would have a canceled check as proof that they received it. Sorta makes you wonder....

         Just some additional thoughts...

CvOwner The 2 year factory warranty you should be able to get done at the dealership as posted in ukdaves post.
The extended warranty however you have to fill out a form with the previous owners signature and mail it to
off to the third parity processer I think in Colorado it has a 30-day time frame from the date of the bike being sold.  But all of this should be at no charge....I have heard of the 50.00 charge but my dealer did not charge me anything for this.  He made the phone call and got me the correct form and everything.  So that might be just a way of your dealer saying bend over a little more because you did not buy a new bike from us....

BTW   When I sold my bike that I transfered that warranty on the first time, I to was wondering if the warranty could be transfered a 2nd time and no problems went back to my dealer and they gave me the paper work and made a phone call to verify that if could be and then help me to get er done...
