Rinehart baffles
« on: July 04, 2010, 11:57:15 AM »

I'm running 2 1/2" performance baffles and want to change to 2 1/4".  I bought a pair from Dennis Kirk and installed them.  They were like straight pipes.  I took them off and figured out that without the plate that was welded in my 2 1/2" the exhausts was just going straight through.  I've looked at Rinehart's website and they show the same ones without the plate.  So here's my question, is there another piece to be purchased.  Below is the ones I bought and the second is a picture of what I already had.

I tried the 2-1/4" "quiet" baffle.  Dennis Kirk had them for sale and they did absolutely nothing to reduce the noise in that exhaust. They lasted about 2 weeks and the I bought  a pair of Bub 7 slip ons. They offer the full 2" mufflers that would go with the Rinehart head pipes. They are just perfect and not too loud at all and I did notice that the torque improved nicely. I'm glad I made the change but you will have to get the bike re-tuned. :2vrolijk_21:

Before you spend a lot of money for new pipes I suggest that you wrap the pipes in fiberglass mat and re insert them in the pipes. The torque will improve and the sound will be reducted while performance is better.

I did try that trick too.  The fiberglass burned right up and then I tried that special tempered exhaust wrap too. Made them sound tinny and still way too noisy. Hate to say it, but I wasn't happy till I made the change.  Happy now.   :orange:

What I'm saying is, why doesn't the 2 1/4" have the plate in front like the 2 1/2" pipe to direct exhaust through the center and therefore utilizing the reduction in the pipe?

Hmmm.  I wondered the same thing.  Maybe they are not an OEM part.

Rinehart shows the same configuration though.

Looks like there's a design difference between the BUB/Rinehart model which was manufactured prior to late 2009 and the current Rinehart (minus BUB) design which is manufactured by Clearline manufacturing out of IA.  The type you have with the flange is not interchangeable with the new style made for the current production Rinehart true duals (XTREME True Duals).  I've got the Xtreme true duals and the straight pipe type baffles fit mine.  Hope this helps.  :nixweiss:

Had my baffles out this morning to fix a baffle rattle in the Rineharts on the 02 RK.  The set pictured with the flange is the BUB older style Rinehart.  The other set is the newer version.  Not interchangeable.  Newer style better than older style - my opinion.  Great sounding pipes.

Iski hit the nail on the head.  This was the baffle delivered in the 2003/2004 timeframe it goes with the 2 bolt endcap not the newer 3 bolt encap.   The pipes for this baffle also had no bungs and the endcaps almost all turned purple from black   ;D.  The next series of pipes had 1 bung and it was by the transmission which was delievered up to 07 with a 2 1/4 baffle.  In 07/08 they delivered the pipes that had 2 bungs near the heads which still used a 2 1/4 baffle.
