A lot of people here use K&N filters.  They have a welded on nut on the end for easy removal.  Twin cam KN-171C (B for black, C for Chrome), KN-170C for EVOs.  Good reputation, just filters.

Champion Labs makes the Harley Filter. It is a quality filter as is the K&N.

Depends on what you want, clean oil or a little less parasitic power loss.  The SS filters I've seen don't come close to the filtering capabilities of the spin-on filters.  Might be OK as a prefilter to sort out the big chunks, I suppose. ::)

Cobb, I've seen other folks on bike sites and car sites linking to that same guy, and IMHO much of what he does is aimed at promoting certain brands of products versus giving consumers the straight scoop.  He isn't exactly "Consumer Reports", if you get my drift. Take his info with a grain of salt.

I'm not sure where he came up with his list of Harley filters, but don't you find it somewhat surprising that he doesn't include the Harley filter, the K&N, etc. in his "reviews"?  And his 8 psi bypass setting sounds like something from the days of the EVO.  I personally don't want my oil bypassing the filter whenever there is a pressure drop across the filter of only 8 psi.  I think you'll find that a good filter designed for the current Twin Cam should have a bypass setting closer to 14 psi.

I prefer the K&N myself, going back to the days of the previous filter Harley sold that had about half the filter material of the K&N and also had a lower bypass setting.  The current H-D filter is much better than the previous versions, and I wouldn't have any qualms about using it.  I just like that nut on the end of the K&N versus messing with a regular filter wrench in the confined area available on the Touring models.

All the filters at the top of the lists did seem to kinda be the same which made me a little suspect. The HD filter may or may not be the best if you use the history of the bikes as a guideline but your response was the kind of information I was looking for grc. Just my opinion but the life of an engine especially an air cool has got to be the oil and its quality filter does not work oil does not work less oil pressure more heat and on and on but not convinced that HD has the best offering of anything just fishing around I do use the HD filter currently but is an hour away and have to remember to get several then I run out then cannot make a change cause do not have a filter handy you know the drill.

I have 8 or 10 oil filters left over from my Evo days and was wondering what the difference is. Besides the part number they look identical. Is it just the bypass setting, and what would it harm on a 110" CVO?

It is a very well built filter with plenty of media/pleats for filtering. Well constructed filter
Sorry I should have been more informative in my prior posting.

Thanks... had me worried for a minute as I wasn't sure what your original post was saying either.
