A good rain suit. One made out of gore-tex. Eventually you're going to need it and it might as well be comfortable. I like pulling a trailer but that is up to you.

I'll kick in with the vote for the 3:37 gearing and the 6speed.  Best money I have spent.  (well, the heated grips are nice too  :)

Well sanjoseduke Sounds like you have enough people here helping spending your money.
The only problem is ... is that you set a budget,  you must have a very strong will to set a budget of 10K. Now is that the total limit or the first month and then we get to add more
the second month.  Hell lets face it we all are just like 4 years kids going to the toy store.....

BTW on your trip if you get to Russellville Arkansas look me up and I'll buy YOU lunch. Sound like
if you hang around here you going to need more than one job to support your HABBIT with all this help.

Hey Bubba,
I always stop in Russellville whenever I'm on I-40. (three time last two years)  Nice town you've got there. Very friendly folks and comforable accomodations.

Hey Bubba & Spiderman

I'm up at Lake Camanche fishing but the weather turned very nasty yesterday. Put the boat away and got on-line to try to figure all this stuff out

Well the $10,000 budget was to get me out the stealers door and to buy the essentials needed for a 3-6 week trip with my wife. I really want her to enjoy the trip. I'm sure as soon as  I hook up with some of you CVO guys along the way and at Cripple Creek we'll begin to add the chrome, lights, & other goodies.

So far here's my shopping list

6 speed
(stage-1, reinhearts, race tuner) or freedom kit
str-8 or true-track  (any comments on one vs the other welcome)
shocks probably to lower it a little I'm only 5'10 with a 30 inseam--(will decide on trip weather I need or not)
Clearview Taller windshield (probably)
Freedom antennas - Probably
Kuryakyn
  Adjustable passenger pegs
  Panecia Lights & controller
don't know about seat yet, Corban's seem so hard (he's just down the road so I'll stop by & see him again)
Felt bag liners
Lid organizers
HD-nylon luggage bag
GPS - I need to research a little further
HD-Passenger headset  (Don't have a clue how to install them in the helmet)
also not sure if their is a better alternative)
Electric clothing, and controllers, any comments (I'll be in the Rockies & Canada and along the Pacific coast June & July)
Any Ideas for driver highway pegs? The lower farings seems to be a problem

Again thanks to everyone for your input. Keep the ideas coming please. I

Hey HD_Dude  jump in here and lend your expertise to sanjoseduke on the electronics stuff.

list looks good duke, FYI, the bike is already lowered, so you might want to try it a bit before you lower it anymore. On the windshield, i'm hoping folks jump in here and offer their opinion. I personally do not like looking through the windshield. WIth a taller than stock windshield at your height, you will be doing just that. comments guys ?

Bubba, your credit's good with me dude, stay in touch, not sure when I'll be ridin through  talking the Big Daddy Q about maybe doing Laconia again this year. wife wants to go to maine, so that's a help

adios caballeros,

SanJoseDuke,
You may want to take a look at these: Kuryakyn Longhorn Offset Dually ISO Pegs - 4575 (for close-up view click here).

Just be careful of how low you put any Highway Pegs on crash bars. I had a friend put them to low on his Road King and they got caught while he was leaning in a curve and the end result wasn't good. :(

Since you're so close to Hollister, why not go to Corbin and see if one of their seats fits yer butt?  They will custom build one to your specs while you wait, and buy you breakfast, too.  I have a Corbin, as well as a Saddlemen by Travelcade, and they were both custom built to fit me at the same price as an off-the-shelf version.

The six speed tranny is a must-have!

I'm going to somewhat go against the grain here, but I just picked up my cuse this past Wednesday.  Rode it 100 miles up the turnpike to get it home.  I've been waiting for 4 mos for it to get here, so I had lots of time to study on what I'd like to do to it.  My 01 Ultra always felt like it needed a 6 speed.  It was bone stock, but it felt like it was being run hard at even 70mph.  My first inclination was to put a 6 into the new one.  After looking at the power curves for the 103, I wasn't so sure.  The 103 has it's peaks a good 500 rpm higher than the 88.  Several of my freinds have 95's with the 6 and they state it lowers the rpm about 300 over 5th gear.  If the 103 has it's peaks higher than the 88, why lower your engine speed?  I'll certainly agree, that running 2 cylinders at 3500 rpm for any length of time ain't no fun, but how often do you travel EXTENDED travels at pushing 90 mph??  After I rode my CUSE home at 70-75 (after 50 miles you're okay to 3500 rpm in any gear per the manual), I'm kind of glad I didn't put a 6 in it.  It seems like it just getting started at 70 mph.  Certainly 100 miles doesn't make me any kind of expert, but I think I'd look at the riding you're going to do before spending the money for the 6.  The stock seat seems okay, but I don't like the backrest- it's too short.  I had a Road Zeppelin seat on my 01.  Road it to the Arctic Circle.  28 days of pure bliss.  It was a very comfortable seat.  Had the adjustable backrest to it.  I would consider it over anything on the market.  It's tough to beat air ride, that can be tailored to your likes and your passengers likes.  The first thing to get changed on my CUSE will be the shift levers and windshield.  All will get longer.  I will go 2" longer on shifters- had them on the 01, works great!  Gives you the whole floorboard to use, and still easy to get to once you get used to them.   Haven't decided on the screen yet, I'd like to have a tinted one, like the original, but about 2-3" taller.  Sorry for the long post.

If you do any two up riding the passenger will appreciate a little more windshield.  I can use the short one when riding alone, but my wife (5'10") gets beaten by the wind when two up.

Also agree on the shifter, I feel like I'm all tucked up to get my foot on the stock one.
