Cuse in The hospital
« on: February 24, 2006, 11:29:11 AM »

I had to take my scoot to emergency yesterday, since day 1 ,I have had low oil pressure, I mentioned this to the service guy when I brought it in to have the MoCo rep look at my bad paint, and to also have a front end noise checked out, he told me that it was normal regarding the oil pressure, . OK, bikes running great, must be ok if he says it is. The other day I noticed a knocking noise, and found there to be low oil, it didnt register on the stick, I added a quart, and got it over to HD-Dudes, we changed oil and filter, I was down to about 1 and a half quarts if I was lucky before we added a quart. I have lost power, it has no response, and just plain runs crappy, theres a knock in the heads still, and Im sure there is damage internally. HD-Dude comes to the same conclusion.

Sorry to hear about your troubles cigarmike.  We all feel for you.  Hate to see anyone have such trouble with a brand new scoot.  Just read a post about warranties on Harley Tech Talk bulletin board (I think), but can't login to it right now.  It is an MSN group and oftentimes has "issues."  Anyway the jest was that under the Federal Moss-Manguson (spelling may not be correct) a manufacturer must prove that your mod was the proximate cause of the failure for them to deny warranty.  Of course you don't want to get into a p*&&*ng contest with them and hope you don't have to.  When I took delivery of my 'melon last Sept. I made the service manager check not only engine oil but also tranny and primary in my presence.  That way I was assured that they had set it up properly.  Sounds like your's just did not complete the set-up properly.  Doubt you lost that much oil in such a short period.  Good luck and keep us posted.

CigarMike,
Sorry to hear about your troubles, that really sucks. :( As the H-D rep stated I can't see that your modifications could have caused a low oil problem and it should be covered under warranty (Rep even stated that bikes shipped w/minimum oil, and dealer should add oil during prep). I would document everything this service guy said/does and report it to H-D Customer Service. Let his (service manager) arrogant a$$ explain to the owner how come they didn't get any gold bar and shield awards. >:( Hope things work out and you get your scooter back soon.

Just in case the a$$hole tries to bs you on whose responsibility oil levels are, the attachment is from the '05 Predelivery Inspection manual from H-D (the '06 should be the same):

Well, not to stir the pot here, but think about the possibility that the service manager thought through that perhaps they didn't check the levels on delivery, and that as a result MoCo would refuse to pay for it, or would back charge the dealer for it if a warranty claim were made.

CigarMike,

 Put it to 'em!  [smiley=furious3.gif]

And for all the aggrevation and grief it will take a new  Jims 120" to make it right.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

 Repeat after me.....Jims 120, Jims 120, Jims 120........ [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

To rebuild your whole motor parts and labor should get you close to their dealer cost on a Jims 120". Work them over to turn a bad deal into a positive. 8-)

Fatboy,
I like your thinking here. How much does it cost to get you on a retainer, your services could be very useful if I were to ever have a problem w/dealer. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Sorry to hear about the new problem cigarmike, :(
I agree with other posts the law is on your side. The Moco has to have a direct link to the problem based on your mod to blame you and avoid paying on your warranty.
As far as the oil thing I have been riding bikes for many years but specifically Harleys since 1997 and in general I find that in the first 500-1000 miles they can burn a quart during breakin but if the breakin is done right then they don't have much burning problems. As a habit though I check my oil everytime I start for the day as well as checking my tires for damage and pressure as well as the belt and lights.Sort of a pre-flight check-off I guess? I also check fittings and parts when I hand wash my bike so I can hopefully find loose items and tighten things down so the don't fall off on the road. ;D

Damn Mike, it sounds like if you didn't have bad luck, you wouldn't have any luck at all.  Best of luck to you. Hope everything works out.

Ive heard good things about Bob Dron and his Wife, cant believe they would be too happy how some customers are being treated by 'Service' manager, perhaps I should go in and have a talk with the owner himself?.

Another thing I noticed, when you put the ingition switch in the ' on' postion, and before starting, theres an oil lamp that lites up in red next to the 'N' nuetral lite. What is this for, and why didnt it ever lite up when I was down to under 2 quarts???. I always asummed that it was to let you know if you were ever low on oil???. Another reason why I felt comfortable with not checking the oil.

There is power in numbers...

maybe a bunch of yall should get together and show up at the dealer
with about 20-30 SE bikes to support Mike...line em up in front of service
and all 20-30 demand to talk the manager.

Sorry for the troubles Mike...If was out there...I would back you!
