Do they check 100 percent of the asssemblies and bikes?

Scarey to think that got missed all the way through the dealer prep and test ride.
According to several studies, so called 100% inspection is only about 80% effective at best.

Mike,

Just had another thought about the oil "disappearing" - if your oil pressure really dropped to zero, and the gauge is OK, it's possible that the oil pump was screwed up and was also not scavenging the oil fom the crankcase back to the oil pan (this is called wet sumping).  When that happens, it will also make the engine run like crap, low power, etc.

Not sure it was the same as your problem, but Gator, of this board, lost an engine at 35 miles.    The MOCO sent him a new enigne. You might check with him and see if there is any similarity.

Got an Update today, MoCo wants it tore apart, and the pump looked at, and if any damage has occured, Jim (Service guy) not the manager) will call me, and we will go from there. So, they must have found something in the tests. I guess Im glad its raining all week

Cigarmike,

Sorry to hear the bad experience with your new pride & joy. I'm sure they're gonna find something wrong with oil pump. No matter what you did for exhaust and ecm upgrades it had nothing to do with oil pressure. You'll get it covered under warranty.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]
In the end I hope you have a discussion with the owner or some other higher up management. Preferably the owner. To let them know how that piece of sh!t service manager is treating people who just spent $34,000 at his dealership.

Good luck & Take Care,

Grover

OK, news is, a tear in an o-ring that had something to do with the oil pump, that is causing it to sump. Im sure thats why Ive had oil pressure problems and loss of performance since day 1, Thats my best relay of message I got from service. Im worried that it caused damage to engine that will show up later, but I am being assured that It is not. Im also told that their best tech is working on it. They will run every test needed on it, and that it was almost back together as of yesterday afternoon, but he doesnt know when I will get the bike back. They want to run more tests, and road test it some more...so probably not this week.

I hate this. I am most anal person about taking care of my toys, Im not rich like the rest of you. Im not happy that they had to tear down my engine after 700 miles. I feel like I just found out that my girl wasnt 'really' a virgin.

Just goes to show how much of a friggn genius the service manager is. Hope you gave him some grief. Maybe if he would have done his job in the first place it would have not gone this far. If the motor has lost power and was starving for oil. How can they say there's no damage done? I'd want to see a compression test done while I'm watching.

Good Luck [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Mike,

Have you spoken with H-D about this, or just the dealership?  I would make sure to get this on record with H-D, verbally and in writing, just in case anything comes up later on.  If you contact H-D and get to talk to the right person, they may just offer to replace the engine, or at least provide an extension of the warranty.

Mike, I sure hope this all works out OK. Your luck just plain sucks. Hope your not going to Vegas any time soon.  Just kidding.  ;D  I agree that I would not be happy with a rebuilt engine. One of my reasons for buying a CVO 103 was to get a factory built engine, not something that a so called tech put together. So far, I'm very lucky. My motor is as quiet as a chuch mouse and my paint is not near as bad as some others. Not trying to rub salt, just wanted to wish you luck in getting everything resolved.
Maybe we need to plan a CVO gathering of bad paint in York and have the local media there to document it. Just a thought.   [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
