American Rider Magazine ceases to exist
« on: August 06, 2010, 06:43:41 AM »

Recently sent in my 2 year subscription check only to have it returned. The notice said that they are combining their operation with Rider magazine. American Rider had been an every other month publication. AR had been dedicated to Harley Davidson with some bones thrown to the lesser players in the bizz.

I saw a thread on here recently where Big Brian hadn't gotten his issues lately (some claimed to have received theirs all the way up to Dec.) and it made me realize that I hadn't received mine, either.

I called the magazine this morning and they told me that the magazine was discontinued and that the June issue was the last issue.  Supposedly, anybody with a subscription was automatically rolled over to Rider Magazine (not the same, since it includes all makes of motorcycles)....however, my subscription was not.  They can't find any indication of my subscription so now they're trouble shooting it. :nixweiss:

Mine subscription rolled over to the Rider version of the magazine. I am less than impressed with it and will not renew. You guys aren't missing much IMHO.

I agree. They went off of the reservation awhile back and started running more foreign bike stuff. So like you I just let my long time subscription run out and didn't renew.

I also have been rolled to Rider.  Typical mag these days.  Harley can do no right and Japan can do no wrong other then not being German which of course are the motorcycle mesiahs.  Granted, Harley has left a lot of room to snipe at them these days, but even the areas that Harley is good at, I've seen Rider gloss over or ignore.  So, they've spent more then the cost of a subscription in sendimg me renewal notices for Rider.  Not happening.  I'm down to American Iron and the AMA & HOG rags.  There's a touring Mag that I found one issue of while traveling called Roadrunner.  I may try to hop on that if I can find another one.  The one I read was good, just like to verify that it wasn't a fluke.

As we all know the print media is dying FAST in lieu of the FAST pace internet.  Advertising on the internet is up while print media is down.  Within 7 years print media will become much like 8-Tracks, cassettes, VHR, BetaMax and other forms of stone-age products...Enjoy it while you can...

God knows I don't mind a naked chick.  But if I'm going to buy a magazine to look at a naked chick, Playboy is a much better choice then Easy Rider.  And if you're reading Easy Rider for it's timely articles (like a review of a two year old CVO) or it's scintillating coverage of biker news (Helmet laws suck and your a @#$% if you wear one) you need to try some other media sources.  There's a whole new world out there!

Of course the porn star they have doing topless maintenance work while pretending she's a mechanic is Pulitzer prize stuff, so maybe I'm just being bitchy.

Think I'll just see what the refund policy is, just not interested in the other rag.  :nervous: Sign of the times for sure.

Her name is Angie Savage.  Look her up on the internet and you'll find she's really much better with other tools.  She also apparently can ride backwards too, as she obviously goes both ways.

And I'm not bitching, I just think Easy Riders has really gone down hill over the last 5 years.  It's a shame, because it was one of my favorite rags for years.  But when they started posing porn stars as biker chicks.... well, I just think they've gone corporate.

Good luck on a refund, I've asked them for it twice. The second time they said sorry sir we have no record of your request.. So another 30 day ticker starts again, plenty of time for them to loose the second request... :nixweiss: and then we'll start process all over again... >:(
How much ya wanna bet I just say screw it, or just forget about it.... :confused5:

JC:

I hope you know I was just having fun.

You're right the magazines have changed a lot over the years. I find myself reassessing each one as the subscription starts to expire.

American Iron is another one that has added more and more uninteresting articles over time.

I hope you have a great holiday!

Jerry
