08 seat versus 10
« on: August 07, 2010, 10:27:31 AM »

I've done the searching but haven't been able to find this answer, I know a lot of folks like the 08 cvo ultra seat, does anyone know if it is lower for the rider than the 10 cvo hammock seat ?  Has anyone possibly had both and can tell me if it is, about how much ?  I'm 5 11 with a normal inseam 32, and I cant quite get my feet firmly on the ground.  On a level surface there flat...but not firmly, on a slant it can get a little dicey.  Adding the fact that the passenger floorboards are a good 3 inches more forward due to the changed mounting bracket, the combination of not having much room to maneuver and not being firmly on the ground to begin with is simply a pain in the @ss.  I don't want to lower the bike if avoidable, and just need another inch maybe, can I get it from the 08 seat ?

Mr_Ed, I also would like a heated seat for my 09 SEUC that would get me a little closer to the ground. I have to scoot forward to get both feet flat on the ground at a stop light to feel comfortable otherwise only one foot is flat and it makes it a little dicey when you have a passenger and  luggage. Regarding your footboard issue I made a post in August 2009 about swapping them from side to side( which I did) this gives you a lot more room. If you feel the need have the HD logo to the front like they are in the original position you can take all that apart and swap them around also. All I did was remove the brackets from the frame and swap sides. I believe I torqued the bolt to 40 ft lbs. You can find my post under "footboards"  in the search section. CAHDBIKER

I bought an 08 seat on ebay and I like it.  As to the actual height, I dont have any specific measurements, but it seems that the 08 seat sits you down into bike more and has a bit of a backrest on it that continues up into detachable backrest and allows my back to be supported better.  Looks like better material as well, like nice leather.

Here is a youtube of my Ultra with the 08 seat.  Pause it at the right time and you will get a good look at what I am talking about.  On the stock seat, that whole dip I refer to is filled in.  How much the height difference is when sitting on it, I am not sure.  The 2010 seat may compress a lot.

Regarding your footboard issue I made a post in August 2009 about swapping them from side to side( which I did) this gives you a lot more room.

The problem with that is....my wife's long @ss legs lol.  See, I went and bought the normal black mounts that position the floorboards more aft where they used to always be, but it was after we rode the Ultra for a couple weeks.  As soon as she got on it she didn't like the new position as it moved her feet back to far to rest on them naturally, she had to have her heels on the forward edges of the boards so her legs weren't positioned back under her per say.  Needless to say I changed them back out.  I really did enjoy that extra three inches of room, albeit it only lasted for a couple rides  :(

When I look at pictures of the 08 seat versus the 10, the 08 seat seems to drop down ALOT from the height of the passenger portion as compared to the 10, this made me think that it would be lower for the rider then.  I'm hoping this is true.  I'm also planning on doing the suspension upgrade, going with the Traxxion cartridges and Bitubo shocks, hoping that the Bitubo's could drop me down just a touch more without sacrificing ride quality and causing me to drag boards more than I already do.  If both these changes would work as intended and drop me down enough, I could then allow my legs to travel "outside" the passenger floorboards when backing the bike up like I do on our SERK.  The small amount of room for leg movement between the front and rear boards becomes a mute point then, and my left foot could be planted firmly on the ground when rolling to a complete stop on a slanted road.

What do you guys think...think this might work ?....any opinions are appreciated.  I'm thinking about a Corbin seat as well because I thought I read they're lower profile and you can get them heated, the big concern there is, I've also heard they're not that comfortable until broken in and that takes forever.  Is that true ?  Wouldn't bother me none, but it would be a bad choice for the wife then.../shrug.  Anybody possible sat in an 08 seat and a Corbin as well ?...any opinion of the two ?

Mr_Ed, will the 08 seat fit on the 09/10 Frame?I was sitting on an 2011 Ultra Limited because the seat looks lower, but when I sat on it it height wise it felt just like my 09SEUC. I wonder if the 08 seat will fit on an 09 or newer because they changed the frame in 09. Does anybody know?CAHDBIKER

I guess it does, I read on the forum here that it's a perfect fit despite the frame change  :nixweiss:

I purchased a new 08 CVO seat from Chicago Harley and put it on my 09 FLHTCUSE4.  Seat fits perfectly, and man is it comfortable.  The lower back support of the seat is great, along with the additional back support bracket,  can't beat it.  But I will say.  the 08 seat sits you higher up on the bike.  I would have thought that you would be lower, but not so.  It sits you probably an inch higher than the stock seat.

Well crap, guess that rules that part of the plan out.  The picture is pretty deceiving then.  So really the ONLY option for getting lower on the bike with a different seat while retaining the heat is to go Corbin ?

So bud, I guess the seat change was the same for you, raised you up a tad higher than the stock one as well ?

Really thought I had an option with it to get a little lower but I guess not... :(
