No lights in small dials on the dash
« on: August 10, 2010, 12:31:27 PM »

My lights behind the small dials on the dash went out.  The speedo and tach are still lit up.  I checked the fuses that might seem appropriate, but they were all good.

Any thoughts?

The tach and speedo use LEDs and the smaller guages use push in bulbs. Are you getting power to the bulbs? Have you tried to replac the bulbs?
If the bike is under warranty mak the dealer fix it.

possible that the bulbs have worked their way out of the housing. have you been inside the fairing lately? or the bulbs have burnt out, but odd if all four.

Scott, On my 2008 the small guages were really hard to see at night. it was as if the lights werent working. The lights were actually working, but because they couldnt shine through the metal face of the guage and had to shine around it instead of through it, it made the guage very hard to see at night. I took the bulbs out to find that there was an orange rubber boot on each of the small bulbs. That made the light very dim. I replaced the rubber booted bulbs with a bulb with orange tinted glass rather than the boot. It made a HUGE difference at night. I can finally see my small guages at night.

Many here, myself included, replaced the OEM incandescent bulbs with WLED-RHP5 LED's from this vendor:

If bulb dimness is the problem, the LED's are an excellent solution.

If the problem is a short killing the circuit to the gauge bulbs, you'll need to pull the outer fairing and search for it; probably a worn wire shorting to a fairing bracket, though I don't recall a similar situation.

superbrites are the only way to go,,, but I can bet that some of his are just hanging from the light sockets and have fallen loose from the gauges.,
