Intsalled the heel shifter
« on: August 10, 2010, 05:04:39 PM »

I have always liked having a heel shifter so I ordered up the parts and installed it today. Not sure if it was worth the cost but I like the results.

Hey EZ, I did the same thing even though I don't use it (my old bike had 1, I thought I might miss it on the CVO).  I just like spending money on top of money I guess!  lol!

I have the same condition as you! I have stimulated HD's economy by $76,000 in 3 years and all I have to show for it is this bike. Buy, modify, sell or trade......I don't think it ever stops.

I did the same on mine but I noted much less room for my left boot. I Know that Pingel makes some extensions for floorboards, does anyone have experience on that extensions?

Good luck on that.. Not that it won't work... I scrape the crap out of my footboards now on cornering.

Thank you for your advice, it often happens already. Any other suggestion, reverse to the original condition?

I had the same feeling but after a few longer rides I don't even notice it anymore. Extensions? I wouldn't use them on this bike because of the low lean angle already. I had them on my Ultra and they made a world of difference, but the floorboads dragged with them.

A friend of mine, who rides a Fatboy, suggests me to mount the heel shifter as high as possible to give more room for the boot heel. He sad that position doesn't influence to much to shift. I’ll do it and I’ll report the feeling.

I notice in your picture the case bolts below the jugs have chrome caps.  Are those HD or Hottoppers and could you provide the part number?  Thanks...I hate the look of those bolts and got to do something with them.  kr

I bought and used the HD engine kit #94943-07, but it will leave you a few short and you'll need to buy some individual ones. You can get just the ones you need if  you want but doing the entire engine and trans really looks good. A friend of mine swapped out all his fasteners for chrome hex heads and it cost him a fortune and I don't think it looks as good as the toppers.

Sorry, i don't have my receipt, but just ask the dealer for the set-up that's on the bike now and reverse the lever to install. It's quite expensive since every little part needs to be ordered seperate, the lever, the peg rubber, the peg housing, peg bolt, peg washer, peg spacer. I think it comes out to about $120. They actually give you a chrome allenhead bolt with the lever to hold it on. I swapped it with the original lever one because that one can be seen.

This thread from porkypig talks about the shifter and the passenger floor pans with part numbers for both. I ordered the whole shifter kit as it is slightly different than the stock shifter. I think the front lever, the bolt is on the bottom in the kit and on top on the stock lever.

I had the heel shifter on my Deluxe and missed it on my Conv, so we added it.  Definitely not a necessity, but more of a habit and a personal preference for me.
