What's the difference in the amps though? They won't give the frequency spec on the 06 or 06A?

Can't speak to the difference in the specs for the respective amps, however, the 2011 under tour pak amps are wired differently that previous years and now provide for CAN BUS (the J1850 serial data referenced by Iron Cross Audio) which the earlier amps don't have, and that CAN BUS allows the "B" amps to be altered in some respect.

The wiring diagrams for the audio in the 2011 CVO RGU, EGU, and SG2 are posted in the Electronics Toys and Gadgets forum if you want to take a look.

And as I'm already asking stupid questions another one: if using a third party amp I understand I need to have the radio flashed too - is this supposed to be a job any dealer will understand/do or am I to expect difficulties here?

The wiring diagram for the SESG2 HK headunit/amp/speakers, etc. is posted in the Electronics, toys and gadgets forum.  It's much different from the amp included on the 2011 CVO RGU and EGU.  Wiring diagrams for those models are included in the same thread.

If you add an amp to your bike, the dealer doesn't have to do anything regarding the installation.

The dealer may get involved if you add another pair of speakers (e.g. fairing lower speakers or tour pak speakers) and the HK radio may need to be hooked up to the digital technician to turn the "fader" control on.  Some bikes already have the fader control activated.  If you scroll through the audio controls (bass, treble, etc.) and "fader" is displayed, you already have the function and the dealer isn't needed; it it's not, you'd need the dealer to turn it on for you if you want that function for the extra pair of speakers.  Interestingly, the SESG2 doesn't have a fader control even with the fairing lower speakers added to the bike.  This seemed odd until the wiring diagram was examined and it shows all the speakers share the same output signals (left and right) from the amp, unlike the amps in the CVO RGU and CUSE6.

For a simple amp installation driving the fairing speakers, the dealer isn't needed.

So what's the verdict on this?  Was this a decent upgrade with the older style amps or not?  I'd consider doing it to my 2008 CUSE3 but wondering if there's any benefit.

Hmmm.... I wonder if my amp went out, 76192-06A, if the dealer would replace it with the new 76192-06B?  I'm assuming the 76193-06A has be obsoleted.  So if the "B" is installed one should be able to reflash for the modified low bass response.

My new to me 09 RG had the boom audio speakers and amp when I got it but I had them put on this porting deal also when I had the other add on parts I had installed when I bought the bike.  Honestly I don't know if the amp is an A or a B but I can tell you the thing just rocks in terms of sound.  Best sounding system I have ever had on a bike.  The rear speakers are really loud and almost over power the fronts even at highway speeds and that is below half way on the volume.  Never have cranked the volume really up on it, no need to.

The official word from MOCO on this is, on the A and earlier Amps, the Port kit "might" help a little. However, there's a pretty evident improvement in the low end with the B amp after reprogramming. I never bothered and still have the kit sitting on the shelf with umteen other things that got shuffled lower on the list.
