This is a picture of my SAC bag (made for HD) loaded and ready to go to MV08. I put a bunge net around the whole thing to strap on leather jackets. While it works great, it was the only thing available from HD back in '07.

Have had the same bag since last year. I like the bag, one drawback is, it is not waterproof, and the cover they provide is a piece of crap. When you put it on and tighten it, when you start driving at any speed it balloons up like a sail and flaps in the wind.

I have applied a water proof coating used for boat tarps to the surfaces and inside the top pocket. Have not been in any rain yet. Hosing it down with water for a few minutes indicates it will be more water resistant than water proof as their are quite a few pockets and zippers, its a lot better than it was. Will find out soon enough.

I admit the "cover" indeed is not the most elegant - but it does it's job. When you look at it in the mirrors it's buffeting glamorously - but it stays on ok.

When under way it's not really neccessary anyway as the airflow seems to be sufficient to prevent water to leak into the bag. As we were on our way to Venice in May we got into really heavy rain from Tarvisio till well past Udine, almost 100 m. As we were on the Autobahn we just tried to get it behind us and rode as fast as the weather - and speed limit - permitted. When we got out of the downpour somewhere around Portogruaro we stopped for a smoke - and realised we had forgotten the "cover". The zippers were modestly wet but that was it, no water found its way in the bag itself.

As I usually store laptop and other electronics in the top drawer I wrap them in freezerbags since and usually just ignore the "cover". Never had any major leakages. Different story of course if the bike is parked in rain - then the cover will be on.
