Fullsac no longer offering CAT removal...
« on: August 15, 2010, 11:32:33 AM »

FYI, now that they offer the X-pipe, fullsac is no longer offering the CAT removal service. Pity that, it was a great service at a very fair price.
Does anyone know of another vendor that will cut open the header, remove the CAT and re-weld the header?

Any local welder can do the job in less than one half hour, and should not charge you more than $75.00     Very easy to do if you have a welder.  Cut with bandsaw and break cat material out and re-weld.

more likely something around 3 + hours as the cat is a real beast to get out and the re-welding must be done very precisely otherwise the header will not fit in again. If you want it to be done properly and in a manner it won't be easily detected you will have to cut through the original welding and have the header chromed again afterwards. Don't see anyone doing the job in 30 min.

BTW: over here pipe-manufacturers found tampering with cats can be severely fined and loose the homologation for their product. Perhaps that's what shied him out of doing this any longer ...

If Steve won't do it any longer, doesn't sound like he's got any toes in the game anymore?

-it is well worth the money for the fullsacs x-pipe, then you could keep your cat header just if the law starts to get serious.

30 minutes to cut - gut- and weld if you know what you are doing. That is what it took to do mine with a friend that builds race cars for a living. . I did not see any reason to chrome as you can not see that part of the pipe anyway. That does not include remove and replace on bike. Owner can do that. I did change to the x-pipe when they became available. BTW it is against federal law to REMOVE a cat from a vehicle that came with a cat from the factory. That means to "gut" the pipe OR "replace" it with a non cat pipe. So I would estimate 90% of H.D riders since 2008 are law breakers that theoreticaaly have violated a FEDERAL LAW and could potentially be fined. If they ever implement smog check for bikes, these of us without cats may have to put them back on. And that sir is a fact!

Us HDI customers until 09 got delivered the - over here compulsory since I don't even remember when - cat neatly packed seperated so it was quite easy for underqualified mechs to forget it on the dealer prep  ;)

But no more since 09 ...

???????????   I think if you re-read my post, you will see that I believe 90% of H.D. riders are NOT law abiding (which includes myself) when it comes to removing the cat.  So I am thinking the U.S. of A may NOT be an extremely law-abiding corner of the world when it comes to making their bikes "run" PROPERLY.  It has been a law on the books clear back to the early 70"s that you were NOT suppose to alter ANY emissions on a motor vehicle. Millions of people have ignored that law over the years. I am an auto tech by trade and also do diesel emission testing where I work in Colorado, so I have been well advised of cat removal. It does not make a difference if that cat has been cut out of the original pipe, or if it has been replaced by a different pipe (yes, even the X-pipe). IT IS STILL A LAW VIOLATION. Many people run stop lights and do not get caught. But someday your luck might run out and the officer will be at that intersection.  A company will receive the same penalty for gutting a cat as they will for removing a cat with an after market non-cat pipe. I would bet if you talk to Steve at Fullsac, he would tell you his pipe is technically not for highway use, which keeps his company out of trouble. What you do with his pipe is then up to the purchaser. In your country -- If you say the tech "forgot" to put the proper non-cat pipe on, what is the penaly over there?? Obviously not much different than the good ole U.S. of A. (if they do not catch you) :nixweiss:   I run the X-pipe, but only ride off road. :apple: :orange: "YEAH SURE" :2vrolijk_21:

Steve is cool with me doing this. I don't see a problem with someone sending there pipe to me and having the cat removed as long as I do not take the pipe off the bike. Thats up to the customer to take it off and put it on. When Vance and Hines sells you there power duals or dresser duals  (without a cat) your doing the same thing.  :nixweiss:

Where in the US do you have to pass an inspection of your exhaust? Nowhere I've ever lived...
