09 Wig-Wag help SERG
« on: August 15, 2010, 11:58:14 PM »

need some help with the wiring. Can anyone help? I read the old one that Jim Kerr did but there wasn't much info on the wiring harness on the bike. Info and pics would be great!

Okay Big Lew,  It's pretty simple here.  From top to bottom you have:
Black (ground)
Orange (power in)
Red Solid
White/red stripe
Red/white stripe

Unplug your wire plug to the tail lights
You have one yellow striped wire spliced into two (break light)...one goes to left side the other right side.
Cut the splice and solder the Red/white striped wire to your right break light yellow striped wire (viewed left in picture)
Solder the White/red striped wire to the left break light yellow striped wire.

Now pigtail the center red wire on the WigWag...not used.
next, solder the Orange WigWag wire to the single yellow striped wire coming out of the plug

Finally, solder or splice the black wire to the black wire coming out of the plug.

Ops Check and if good, wrap everything up nice and tidy and stowe away...you're done...time foe a :drink:

What piece of equipment is this?  Is it the one that flashes both tail lights in alternating fashion?

Thanks CAT, just ordered it.  What is the preferred installation, mode 1 or mode 2?  I believe the pictures here are mode 2.

I run mine on option 2. I think 3 or 4 cycles is enough to get anybody's attention. Looks great as well. I would check on a new item that my local body shop guy hooked me up with. Its a piece of shrink tube that has solider on the inside. When you heat it with the heat gun the tubing shrinks and the solider melts. Its the best way to do this job!

I wonder what those heat shrink deals are called and where you get them.  I saw them last week at a Kawasaki dealer watching them fix a friends bike.

For what it's worth I've used something similar and wasn't a great fan.  At least not for automotive uses compared to a good crimp type connector with a heat shrink shroud.

The solder laden connectors (at least the ones I've seen) don't have a crimp.  A solder only connection in a vibration prone environment is unlikely to hold up as well as a good crimp connection.
