Best friend/riding buddy moving :(
« on: August 17, 2010, 12:25:33 AM »

Well, after 3 weeks of job interviews and relocation visits, my best friend of 35 years is moving to the Denver area after accepting a new job. I am sooooo happy for him and it is a perfect fit for his skill set and abilities and offers him an absolutely fantastic future! :2vrolijk_21:
But what a crater in my life it is going to leave  :(
In the last 8 years we have really gotten closer and been there for each other during the good the bad and the ugly. Divorces, employment/business issues, family deaths, young adult children rearing issues, grandbabies, and some really fricking fantastic CVO Harley rides (usually multiple times a week) as well as many more life experiences....
He's got an 04 Black Blue SEEG and mine is the 05 Jalapeno SEEG. My wife and his have teased us both about the serious "bro-mance" we seem to have going but I'd give my life for the guy and know he feels the same.
Sure I can and will ride to see him and he'll ride back this way too, but that obviously aint the same as living within 15 minutes of each other. I post this cause I am sure many of you have a close friend that you feel strongly about and can appreciate what it would mean to you if they were to move away.

I hear ya Keith... I went throught the same thing two years ago, but I was the one that had to move... 500 miles south.  Away from friends that I have had since high school.  I have been friends with some of these guys for 30 years.  Snowmobiling in the winter, Harleys and Boats in the summer and dirtbikes and airplanes in the spring and fall!!  My 30' x 50' heated garage was a common hangout to change oil, do mods and just get all banged up! (I had a couple of couches put up in the loft for crashing)

You'll have to make an extra effort to stay in touch... Phone Calls and Skype is great.  Plan bi-annual (twice a year) rides together, meet in the middle and ride from there.  Sounds like you are retired or close to it... that will make it that much easier to travel to visit!

This is just an excuse to put more miles on your SEEG!

Hey I know what you mean, in this case I was the one that moved from Ohio to Alabama, sure do miss those early morning rides and all the friendship we developed over 40 plus years.  The good thing is though we were all so close that we get together in Florida, Alabama and Ohio multiple times throughout the year and it is like we have never been out of touch at all.

The hardest thing is coming up with a new group to ride with and trust their riding habits.  It takes a while, but they are out there in every city.  That is why I love to ride, you can indeed meet the greatest people on a motorcycle.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. I know we will remain the same type of friends we are now just at a distance. And the spot I am in right now Chains is that one of...who the hell will I ride with and how will I get in the groove with them like me and my buddy have. We ride like a fine tuned machine and that is part of what makes it fun.
Time for some personal growth I guess  :2vrolijk_21:

And for real irony...  One of my best friends of all time, riding buddy, co-worker ect...  moved away and abandoned me around 14 years ago.  Want to know where he moved to?  Coeur D'Alene, Idaho...   ??? :nixweiss:

Hey Sadunbar, I think we've talked about the guy! Maybe I should look him up!
