ZUMO 660 HOW TO HEAR COMMANDS THRU RADIO SPEAKERS?
« on: August 17, 2010, 05:59:49 PM »

Can this be done and how? I bought Zumo 660 direct from Garmin to use on my 03RKC, but purchased 09SEUC and was never installed on RKC. Wondering if it is possible to connect audio out wire of Garmin so voice commands are heard thru radio. I don't see any place on back of radio to plug into. Is there a HD pigtail that I need? Local stealer was clueless told me to call Garmin, which I did and was told by service rep that person doing install should know which wires from the Harley radio to hard splice the garmin harness wires into. I said I did not think that was an acceptable wiring solution for such an expensive GPS. Thats all he could offer as a fix. If it can't be made to work I'm ok with that I'll just turn up the built in zumo speaker. Thanks for your help. If there is a post about the wiring I could not find it.
**Factory radio was just replaced last Friday with re-fab unit,so don't really want to go the Iron Cross route just yet.

UPDATE**8/19/10 Zumo 660 installed on dash pad. Took a short test ride and I can hear the GPS voice commands from the unit pretty good. I will just have to lower volumn of XM. All is good for now. Thanks to all who posted!

OK, seriously, read this thread: http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=52242.0;all
There seems to be a problem with the new overlay harness. I'd wait a few weeks til HD figures out what the problem is.

OK.. maybe I'm just trying to keep it simple... but it appears he's only wanting to hear voice commands thru the radio "speakers" and this can be done as it has in the past by either using the "Aux" plug on the front of the radio, reading this thread - "How To" HK 06 and up Aux Jack to back of radio, or contacting Iron Cross Audio and have them install the plug in the back for you. This will allow you to hear GPS voice prompts thru your radio when you have selected "Aux" on your stock radio. Here is a good stereo patch cord that many of us have used - SOUND PROFESSIONALS - GOLD PLATED 3.5MM (1/8 INCH) RIGHT ANGLE STEREO PATCH CABLE (1 meter length). Hope this helps.

I thought about that, but then he won't get any music unless he is listening to MP3's on the GPS since he needs to have AUX selected to hear the voice prompts.

try this, it worked for my 550

http://www.cyclegadgets.com/Products/KT/detail.asp?SET=GPS2

CellSet MC/3 Audio Interface by Kennedy Technology Group - Allows a combo GPS/Music/Bluetooth device (e.g. Garmin 2820 or Zumo 550) to connect to both the Auxiliary Input AND the Intercom, using an external switch. This allows music to be heard from the combo device through the auxiliary input, but still permits voice prompts & phone calls through the intercom if listening to AM/FM/CD

True..but my first thought was would you give up music for the few voice commands???  But if he is going to listen to MP3's with the GPS also, then he now has his solution. Iron Cross for a rear Aux input.  :2vrolijk_21:

Isn't the rear aux dedicated just as the front is?

How does my Zumo 660 differ from the "Roadtech" 660? wiring harness, software, etc. Thanks.

You will hear anything the GPS is outputting when you have selected AUX on the radio. You will not be able to listen to radio or CD  (or factory XM radio) and have the GPS interupt it while not in the AUX setting. George's suggestion from above looks like an idea if you use you intercom setup. It does not look like it work through the speakers.
