Bidding on CVO on Ebay and auction started over??
« on: August 19, 2010, 01:42:40 PM »

I was bidding on a 2009 CVO on EBAY (thru a dealer). I was the top bidder and reserve had been met with 6 days left. 3 hours later I click the link in my email to view item, and it shows zero bidders and a new starting bid.

I have messaged the seller and I am waiting a response. I searched "Contact Ebay" for answers but cannot find the one I need.

Is this normal, legal, fair?

Rob

Rob, Sounds funny to me, I would contact ebay directly, I had an item on ebay and it had some bids on it, a buddy called me and wanted it, tried to cancel the auction and they wouldn't let me. Said it had bids on it and I had to let it run. I had another incidence that's right along your line. I bought a 2005 SEEG, in OH. called  the guy told him  I was headed that way to pick it up next day and mysteriously a 2x4 fell on it and ruined the tank. Told him  that's Ok I'm headed that way I'll take it anyway....he couldn't back up quick enough. What he really did is set the  reserve too low and after I bought it he couldn't deal with it...told him he owed me  a grand for my trouble, got a check for 500.. No it's not normal, don't know about legal.not even going to comment on fair..county or otherwise.....Greg

Greg,

That is what I was thinking. Not trying to speculate, just thought that once the bidding started, it couldn't be removed unless stated so. I called first and was told, by who turns out to be the Sales Manager, that I couldn't buy it there, I had to bid on it. what was funny was the first guy I talked to at the selling dealership tried to tell me they yanked because the high bidder (who happened the exact same high bid as me) retracted his bids. when I explained I was the high bidder he then said a guy had done it the day before. So when I asked why was it still up for bid this morning when I bid on it the first time he switched me to the sales manager. When I asked him he flat said they figured out a way to cancel it so they could sell it local. When I told him I spoke with him JUST A FEW HOURS AGO and he told me I had to use Ebay as he wasn't allowed to sell it to me once the bidding started, he just said "well, it has been sold". Then I replied :so that's it?" He said "yep, that's it".

Can you help me with how to reach Ebay? Every channel I try keeps taking me back to the "Contact" tab which no matter how I phrase my question cannot help me nor will it direct me to an email or phone number.

Thanks.

Did the dealer have a note in his add stating the bike was on his floor for sale and auction could end early?  If he did then there is nothing you can do.  Any auction can be ended early within 12 hours of close even if it has bids on it.  Not sure it's fair but it happens every day.

I didn't see that anywhere (not that I looked). I did call the dealer first and was told I had to bid on Ebay though.

There may have been an error in the listing.  The seller can end the auction if this has happened.

I understand, but wouldn't they mention that when I called to ask why? And if there was an error they would re-list it I would think. I appreciate the input.

:huepfenlol2: I rarely use it, but thought that might be the best way to find the one I was hunting. Funny thing is that there were 2 and the other was a similar price with less than 2000 miles, but I felt I should go thru the dealership so as not to get screwed.... :nixweiss:

Call the dealer, I bought my CVO on e bay, through a dealer, as soon as I made a bid, dealer gave me a call to see what my intrest really was. Bought the bike at a unbelievable price, and it was a HD dealership, which was shocking.

Sounds fishy Rob. Someone at dealer F**** up and they are not telling. You will never know what happened. Even if you talk to a person at Ebay they will be no help to you and you still won't know WTF happened. I almost got scamed, thankfully did not lose any money but when I caught the scamer SHE sent a virus to my computer. The good news is check the site Chopperexchange, they have 5 different CVO bikes listed right now. I would avoid the one listed in MO. unless you live close and can see it in person. Good Luck.
