CVO 103 HOP UP KIT
« on: March 05, 2006, 01:01:25 PM »

Any fedback on what my dealer is calling a 103 HOP UP Kit. Some of the parts include Race Tuner$459.95, Compression release$84.95, SE258Cam Kit$269.95, Quick Install pushrods$139.95, assorted gaskets and dodads, mill heads, and 8 hours labor... totalling $1616.90 plus tax. Does not include exhaust, but srvc mangr says seeing that I want it quiet, can use stock SE pipes that came on bike. I am thinking of using Supertrapp performance baffles, and have them Dyno Tune it to that. Or..... should I just leave it stock as reliability is job one at my house. Thanks in advance, you folks are the best!

Far, without regard to the other assortment ("combination" seems perhaps too generous a word), the fact that they are suggesting significant engine work and expense on one hand while on the other telling you you're not ill-served by the stock exhaust would raise a red flag.

I would wait about 2 more weeks for the Zippers packages to be released. As two lane THERE IS A RED FLAG WAVING in the back ground!!!!!! Stock exhaust is one of the problems with the way they run from the factory. Also you should not need compression releases with the stock set up unless they want to take a bunch off of the stock heads!

If you use the stock pipes, you will give up the benefits of all the other mods you are making.  You're increasing the intake, you have to increase the exhaust flow.   8-)

I'm probably going to go just cams. I just want a little more performance (TQ) and get rid of a weak spot (chain drive cams). Doesn't take much to make me happy. [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]

We're paddling the same boat Gary.  Just want the prophylactic effect of losing the chains.  Moving the torque curve down a bit is gravy.  I'm just doing the cams too.  Will also do a Feuling pump and lifters while it's apart though.

Twolane, what setup are you going to end up with? I am looking for low and mid, and again I am willing to change exhaust, but do want to keep the noise down. Yes, that flag went up when he said that this package would work with stock exhaust. Thats why I'm typing. Thanx guys.

Ridefar you have many choices in exhaust. It doesn't have to be loud till you twist the wick. I run a thunder header and it doesn't bother me at all. You could in fact run the thunder cones which are a set of slip on thunder header mufflers on your stock pipes. Or try the true duals or a set of screamin eagle after market mufflers. Some people like the D&D fat cat. You need to get around some of these exhaust and listen to them.

Just remember a free flowing exhaust will help your bike run cooler, more efficient, and a tad faster when tuned right.
