SE 110 motors
« on: August 22, 2010, 11:31:42 PM »

Guys, I know there has been a huge amount of information on this site about warranty work on 110s and the state of each one of the remediation issues over the last few years.  Having just ordered a new 2011 FLHXSE2 here in Australia, I am wondering what the current state of play is with the 110 SE engine.  Have all the previously identified issues been rectified by HD/MOCO or are there still troublesome faults with the engine?  Just that getting the work done here can be a real nightmare based on parts ordering for a very scant number of models in this country each year (for 2011 only 120 CVOs in total to come to these shores).  Thanks

I year and 5,000 miles without a hitch on my SESG. Just about to take off for another 5,000 mile ride.
Only mods are CAT removal, SERT and 2.0" fullsac muffler cores. 40mpg on scenic roads, 35mpg on interstates.
Perfect.

Seems most are doing well but still a few of the issues still popping up. Most common is the primary bearing and comp assembly so far.

Your most piece of mind is that Harley will stand behind it.  My 08 CUSE with 34K miles has had this:

- Leaking gasket at oil filter adapter
-Rear cylinder ACR failed
- Starter, clutch basket, and compensator replaced (with SE comp)

Three distinct failures.  I am now on extended warranty for next 3 years.

Just got mine in June.  Almost 3000 Miles and no issues except the outer fairing is being replaced today because the moco forgot to paint a section?  ???

only a couple hundred here with nothing major..........clutch lever rattles when cruising.  i quoted this post as it's funny.........i was just speaking with me dealer and asking why my valvetrain rattles so much and he said it's prolly the primary clanking   :-X

23k on my 09 SERG and no issues other than some irritating pinging that I'm trying to resolve now (bad AFR or fuel or bad SERT tune).  Love the engine and the performance.  And with the SERG, I get better gas mileage than every other engine that I travel with - 88, 96, 103 and 110.  I think it's the design/aerodynamics of the RG vs all other bikes.  Enjoy the ride!

That is common when the tune is out of whack, VEs not corrected properly and /or timing not mapped right.

well, dont get me wrong i love the bike but, blew a shock in the first 1000 miles "oh well", clear coat has spots in it, burning oil little more than half a quart every 1000miles "3500 miles on it now" another half a quart and the warrenty kicks in and we fix it,and the motor is noisy.

VEs are proportional values in the AFR formula the ECU uses to calculate AFR. You need a SEST, TTS or other direct ECU programer to access the values and specific knowlege to tune them, best left to a qualified tuner.

well on my 110 im pretty satisfied now.    the stock tune that is in the super tuner is way to lean this is why the pinging occurred on mine.  14.6 to 1 is ideal in the automotive industry where we have liquid cooled engines this is an air cooled engine and i found 13.8 to 1 is best still playing.  it seems like hd must be challenged with emissions bullchit but a not so hot day up here in Canada 0f 30 deg Celsius and sit in traffic a bit and ping ping rattle rattle put the afr higher and crank up timing us much as possible without it pinging and mine pulls hard aside from the noisy valve train no one seems to have an answer for im happy ill just have to pull her down this winter and find the valve train noise myself this winter
