Anyone with a 2000 model and no alarm?
« on: August 23, 2010, 05:10:04 PM »

Before 02 the stock alarm systems didn't accommodate the addition of the alarm system.  You had to get the regular alarm kit and an install kit that was the harness to attach it to the bike.  Was at the local parts counter this morning checking on some ordered parts for an overseas member and found out the installation harness for 2000 model touring bikes has been discontinued.

It is 68314-01.  Without that you'll never put an alarm system on your 2000 model.

I've got one on order I found on Amazon from Adventure Harley. I'm not sure I'll install it, so let me know if you need it.  Doc

I'm good Lou.  Thanks though.  Adding the alarm was one of the first things I did after dragging the bike home.

If you decide to the harness install isn't a big deal.  It eliminates the bank angle sensor and the TSM.  Plugs in to the old TSM socket in front of the battery and replaces the old parts with a TSSM behind the battery where you'd expect it to be.

Just have to find the security system now. The part numbers are kind of confusing for 00. What is the correct system  :nixweiss:  Thanks, Doc

Same one that everything else uses.  68200-00D is the current version of the kit number.

If you do it do yourself a favor and spend an extra dollar and a half though.  Order #70447-01.  That's the clip that holds the new TSSM to the frame and is used stock to hold down TSM and TSSM's on later bikes.  With it you just drop the new TSSM in the hole behind the battery and snap the clip down.

The bracket to hold the TSSM in place that comes as part of the kit is a pain in the ass though.  Throw it away and use the buck-fifty clip instead.

Thanks for the heads-up on this Don  :2vrolijk_21:  I found one at American Harley just outside of Buffalo NY,  going to pick it up this week,  and only $ 64.00 US  :huepfenjump3: not too bad.

You might try this link.   http://www.google.com/products?q=Harley+68314-01&aq=f

After checking the link I guess I got the last one at Adventure Harley.  Doc

I first called Gowanda Harley (which is near the PA state line in NY state)and the guy in the parts department did a search of other dealers that might have the part and the only one he found in the US was just outside of Buffalo so I scooped it as fast as I could  :coolblue:

When I discovered the part was going away wanted to let you guys know.  Had to be some of the 2000 guys that didn't have alarms yet.  Might as well have the opportunity if you can.

The description is a little off but the part number is right.   http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/new-genuine-harley-davidson-security-system_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQitemZ230514977723QQsspagenameZRSSQ3aBQ3aSRCHQ3aUSQ3a101

That's it.  Right parts and right part number.

I may see if I can swipe it, unless someone else is interested and then I will stay out ...
