ipod install problem
« on: August 26, 2010, 09:57:15 PM »

I installed the ipod module and works good but the sound in the left speaker is real bad and weak. Speaker works great on all other functions FM CD XM all sound good just on the ipod mod. Right speaker sounds great on everything. Any ideas I tried two different ipods and two ipod modules and also two different wire harnesses. Thanks

My thought is that you have a bad radio. You have eliminated all other possibilities, 2 IPods and 2 Modules and you even replaced the wiring harness.

Krazze,

I can't help you on the left hand speaker probelm, but I do have a question for you.

I see you have a SESG and I'm sure the HK head unit was without the 35 pin connector just like my '09 SERG.  Did you order the 35 pin connector kit with the iPod Interface kit?  I have the 35 pin connector on order, but they said it was national back order, so it may take some time.

What all comes with the 35 pin connector kit, short harness of any kind?  Do you have any pictures of the 35 pin connector kit?

Good luck with your left side speaker.

Thanks.

I had xm already on bike so I had the ultra harness with the 35 pin connector but this is what comes to use if you dint have it. I did upgrade radio software and did away with amp (temporally) still left side speaker sounds bad on ipod sounds like it is underwater.

Thanks for the picture of the 35 pin harness.

Hope you get your issues resolved.

In the "any ideas" category, check the wiring in pin-out 8 on the 35 wire connector since this is the left channel signal from the Ipod on the FLTRUSE according to the wiring diagram in the 2011 HD Service Manual Supplement.  The wiring diagrams were just posted in the Electronics, toys, etc. forum.

One way to check that the wire/sockets are fully inserted is to remove the 35 wire connector from the HK head unit and look at the HK end of the connector.  A fully inserted wire/socket will be visible just behind the surface; a wire/socket not fully inserted won't be or will look different from the others.  Another way to check is to pull  on the wire in question.  If it's inserted correctly it won't come out; an incorrectly installed wire will come out of the connector.

When you changed modules, did you change the cable going to the ipod as well?

If the bad channel changed from left to right when you switched pins 8 & 31 then it is not the module.

You have a hard one on your hands good luck with it.

Another "any ideas" suggestion:  try the HK self-diagnostic procedure and see if the HK unit is throwing any codes:

In any event, I'd call/email Iron Cross Audio and see what Tony has to say.

Good luck finding a solution.

I have the same problem with my Ipod but with the right front speaker, it sounds as if there is some water in mostly with the trebles sounds, but my Ipod if on the aux with the jacks cable.
When I play CD or radio all is good. :-\

Could it be your Ipod? Is it every song on your ipod? The only reason I ask is because some songs are incredibly low with volume turned up on some songs and than loud on others. Depends on how it was recorded onto Ipod. Also I know my dealer was making a fuss over the only ipod certified was the Nano.
