New H-D Zumo Mount
« on: September 03, 2010, 03:47:30 PM »

Installed the the new Zumo 660/665 mount H-D introduced. The painted one was starting to rust...so chrome was the only way to go. The new style allows you to rotate the cradle 180 degrees so you can see the gas gauge. All in all, I like it.

With Zumo 660 in cradle. I believe this mount places the unit closer to the rider.

I just changed my set up from the 550 Zumo with painted mount to the new chrome mount with the 660. I really do like the new set up. The only problem I have is the "washed out" screen when viewing in day light. The 550 had a much, much better screen in daylight conditions. Does anyone have the same concern?  If so, are there any solutions that work well? I have contacted Garmin, but they did not know there was a problem---- yeah, right.

I ordered the fairing mount like the mid year 2010 CVO came with.  Just waiting to get that elusive HD part number 1106 screw!  I don't have all the part numbers for that setup, but Jenni at Tri-County put it all together.  Took a 28 day, 7246 mile ride with no GPS mounted!  Sure wish it was on the bike and not in the tour pack!!

My Zumo 660 is the same as yours...washed out in the sunlight. I was blaming the problem on my 50+ year old eyes. ;) Interesting you didn't have this issue with the 550. Perhaps they sacrificed intensity when they went to the larger touch-screen display.

I put this on mine and it helps a bunch plus it will fold down and Velcro shut over the screen.  A bunch on the Zumo forum have put wire in the front seam to stiffen it, I haven't put the wire in but might.  Do a search and there's big thread about it.

I do appreciate your input on this -----  but -----  I should not have to put anything on the unit, as it was advertized that it was good for daylight viewing. If it needs a shade, it should have come with the unit, AND Garmin should have explained how it was not quite up to par, and that was their fix for it. My Zumo 550 was on my bike for almost three years, and I NEVER had a problem seeing the screen. That tells me that Garmin dropped the ball on the 660 screen, and they expect us to just live with it (must be partners with Harley).  I am on my fourth e-mail about this with the Garmin boys. I will post if I get any info about this. Thanks again

I got an update last night from Garmin. Their final word was  ---  if you are not satisfied with the product, you should return it to the dealer you bought it from.  Oh --  thank you for all your help, Garmin folks.  I guess they can advertise this unit to work well in daylight conditions, and when it does not  ---  oh -well. I think they are made in the same building they build the 110 motors.

Does seem ironic that the first model of the Zumo that comes stock on a CVO was the 660 and it sucks as far as screen resolution viewing in the daylight. Put n a pair of polarized sunglasses and you cannot see ANYTHING on the 665.

Sad. I was hoping they would offer a screen upgrade one day. Doesn't sound like it.

Rob, You know that all sunglass manufacturers recommend you never wear polarized glasses on motorcycle. Polarization takes away the ability to see the difference between a glare/shady spot on the road ahead and liquid such as puddle of water or oil.
I can see my 660 O.K. in the sun, but I wear a non-polarized dark shield on my Mulititec Shoei helmet.

ATT sells stick on anti glare shields for the IPhone. You get 3 for about 18 bucks. It might take two to cover the screen, but it they might help with your Zumo ?  Could be worth a try for the price.

NuShield sells an anti glare screen cover that is specifically made for just about anything, including the 660. I ordered a set of two including shipping for $19.99
I will see how they work next week.    www.NuShield.com

Received NuShield and installed yesterday. Took bike for a ride in the sun today. IMO --- save your $20.00 or throw the $20.00 out the window of your car  -- maybe some kid will find your $20.00  --  at least then someone will get some use from your $20.00  -- these anti glare shields did NOTHING.

I put the ZAGG shield on my 660.  It effectively cuts the glare and I can see my 660 in sunlight.  Plus Zagg offer free replacements if you ever manage to damage one.  Great shields.  I have them on the zumo, digital cameras, iPod, iPad, and all our cell phones.
