Cold Weather Riding Records?
« on: September 08, 2010, 08:11:15 AM »

There is a chill in the air and fall/winter is fast approaching and time to get the cold weather clothes ready.
Just curious what the coldest temp. you've riden in??  Mine is 8 but hope to beat that this year since I have some Gerbin electric clothing now.

Roadking

Was that a real ride or a quick dash down to the store?
That makes a difference.

Last year when we were leaving for Daytona at 6:00am, the temp was 14.
We waited till 7:30am for the sun to come up and it was a balmy 18.
500 miles to Daytona and it never got above freezing till we hit the Florida state line.
Heated grips, heated seat, lectric jacket liners and full face helmets was all it took.

Yes, mine was just for a short 8 mile trip to work.  Glad to see the heated grips, seat, electric liner & full face helmet worked well as that's what I'll be using this year.

That stuff works great!
Let us know about your rides.
8 seems a little cold.

Well I think you need to clarify the ride, bike with a faring/windshield, heated seat, grips or vest? The coldest I ever rode was 29*. No windshield, leather jacket and gloves, that was it. Went 30 miles, had to stop half way and run up and down the road to get warmth back into my legs, but that was about 20 years ago!  :P

This past March....Bishop, Ca to Reno, Nv.  Rode over 2 passes with very early morning temps between 10-15 deg.
Full helmet, 2 sweaters and jacket, ski gloves, ski pants with chaps over (yeh everyone laughed at that).  No heated gear......thought I would never make it past the first 30 miles.  Lots of stops for coffee.  Will have heated stuff this winter for sure!!

18 degrees headed into the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.....

The ranger at the gate looked out at us, smiled, and waved us through. Must have felt sorry for us.

Four degrees on my brother's Sportster thirty years ago.  Had a hole in one of the fingers on my glove so didn't stay out more than a few miles though.  In my more sane days it was 22 when I rode my '98 Fatboy home from the dealer for the first time in December, about fifteen miles that time.

Last January here in "sunny" Florida. Left Z'hills on a Sat. a.m. for Advanced Riders Edge in Lake Wales. 19 degrees here 25 when I got there, 60 miles.
Everything fine except wrong gloves. Stopped halfway and put gloves on primary and warmed hands in exhaust idling beside road. I couldn't even light a smoke because my fingers wouldn't work.
