I don't think I will ever have a lock issue. I never lock it (no fob, no start). I have never locked my steering in over 30 years of bike riding. One, if someone really wants it, locked steering won't stop 'em. Two, if it ends up being parked in harms way and needs to be moved (it will make some noise with the alarm) and I am not around, I don't want locked steering to cause it to be tipped over or not be moved and potentially damaged.

No-fob-no-start of course doesn't apply on other than very recent models.  As for locking it; I don't either.  Except when I do.  Which is most of the time.
