Nitrogen from day 1
36 lbs rear 42 front and switched to Progressive monotubes in the forks. Like switching to "Sport mode" on my cars. firmer no dive or acceleration rise.

None of the issues you've described here?

I too experienced a rough ride on my Spiced Rum for the first 500 miles or so - coming from a Fat Boy with air ride I assumed some of this was just something I needed to get used to.  Handling was MUCH better on the FLHXSE, so I was hesitant to change anything.  But I definitely could feel every pebble on the road - the ride on the rear was harsh.

One day had the left saddlebag off and decided to check the rear shock preload - found that it was cranked up near max from the dealer;  took that all the way back to '0' then added one turn (I'm about 190 and almost always solo).  Last week added the Progressive monotubes to get rid of the front end dive and now I have a NEW new bike!!

Have noticed some mushiness from the rear since I changed the font, so may need to tighten the rear preload a bit more, but overall a huge improvement.   :orange:

I have about 1100 miles on my flhxse2. My rear shocks are adjusted to my weight for solo which is under 200 lbs. On a smooth hwy the ride is fine. A few pebbles on the road, or bumpy road, and after some miles, I really feel the fatigue. On my SEUC4 I have Traxxion Dynamics front forks and Bitubo rear shocks. On my SEUC5 I have Traxxion on the front and Ohlins on the rear. The Bitubos and Ohlins are comparable but I'd definitely give the edge to Ohlins.

After not riding my Ultras since I bought the SESG, I took a ride today on my SEUC5. Man, did I realize how much of a difference my suspension made on the comfort of a ride. I'll be adding suspension mods to the SG soon.

How big of a job is these Progressive monotubes?  Could I do it myself in the garage?  I am interested in trying something to improve my ride.  If I run over $.25 in the road, I can almost feel if it was a quarter or two dimes and a nickel.

It's going to take more than a quarter, 2 dimes and a nickel to buy the tools needed to do this job.
If you can borrow the tools then go for it, if you have a manual for your bike!

I cannot believe anyone would ride a motorcycle with such low pressure in their tires... I can't believe you would let others know that you were doing such a rediculous and dangerous thing.   That's why they give owners manuals with products you are buying... I really suggest you get one and read it thoroughly..  It could save your life!!   jeeez!!! >:(

We don't know what we don't know.  Rather than ridiculing the effort and laying the groundwork for someone to later keep quiet and wonder it's better the gentlemen mentioned, was informed and got the tires pumped up.

Thank you Twolane.  I am not an idiot.  I simply am playing with my tire pressures to try to improve my ride.   I am trying to find a happy medium here because I seem to be the only one who feels that their SESG rides like crap.  It took me almost 3 months to come to terms with spending this kind of money on a bike and I totally love this bike.  I would not do it any different if I had to do it over again.  I just wish it rode a little smoother.  I read my owners manual cover to cover when I took delivery.  I love the knowledge on this sight and just thought maybe somebody felt the same as I do and could offer a suggestion for improvements on ride quality.

The ride is firm. Some bumps feel like you've hit it so hard, you might have thought you bent a rim. There's this bump on the freeway I can't forget, you prepare yourself, cuz it could almost throw you off your bike. Just characteristics of the bike. Takes getting used to.

Keep posting here these guys will get you on the right track and get you in the poor house at the same time, its a love hate relashonship let me tell you...
