Rear brake rotor runs hot
« on: September 14, 2010, 05:26:34 PM »

I bought the 2006 FLHX last spring with 1600 miles.  Brakes squeaked like crazy.  Replaced front rotors with floating rotors and Lyndall Z plus all around.  The rears kept squealing.  (I know it's a hog) I called Lyndall and they sent me some magic formula to put on the brake backing and it stopped the squeal.  I got a composite floating rotor at Lyndall's suggestion with a set of their Red pads (not installed until today).
The squeal went away but the rear rotor gets so hot you almost can't touch it.  I've checked friends rear rotors and they are cool.
Story update:  (14000 miles) I just replaced the tires and cleaned the front calipers getting ready for MV10.  I finally installed the Lyndall composite rotor and the Red brake pads.  Took it for a short ride, no squeal, but the rotor is hot.  The rear caliper pistons are clean and move freely back and forth.
When the bike is off the ground, there is no drag or run-out of the rotors.

Is this normal?  What else could it be?  My foot is not on the pedal.

Thanks

Phil
