Fuel additive for ethanol
« on: September 16, 2010, 01:06:11 PM »

Has anyone tried this.  Was at a local bike shop today and the guy likes it better than sta-bil for winterization.
I just wondered if anyone had tried it for tank to tank use with out current crappy gas options.

Don't know about it but I do know a lot of people, me included, use this (available in local motorcycle shops).

:2vrolijk_21:   Maybe it's just my nature to be suspicious, but any time a product claims to do pretty much everything but regrow my hair I tend to be very sceptical.  And when they try to impress me with tons of verbage that pretty much says nothing of substance, the red flags go up.

If all you want is a good stabilizer for long periods of inactivity, such as winter storage, you can't go wrong in my humble opinion if you just stick with the old standby, Sta-bil.  Works fine for me, and I don't seem to have any of those "problems" the advertising copy implies I should have if I'm not using their product.  And for those who are just now getting reformulated fuel for the first time, don't let the fear mongers scare you into buying all kinds of unnecessary additives and junk to fight off the evil ethanol.  I've been using reformulated gas for years due to my location near Chicago, and I haven't had to use any additives to keep my vehicle fuel systems in tip top shape (other than the stabilizer previously mentioned for winter storage).  Save your money.

So where do you find that?? I did see one station in NC advertising it. Mom and pop store back off the main drag. Never seen it anywhere else here in Florida anyway.

Thanks for the honest answer Larry, I wish I could find ethanol free but it simply does not exist in my area.

I use the Starbrite in my boat.  Marine stuff hates ethanol and this is the only stuff that seems to keep it from fouling fuel filters.  Works pretty good as a stabilizer too.

Yeah, but I'm still glad I grew up in the days of fire-bleching carbs gulping that high octane.  It just won't be the same with a silent whizzer now will it?  :( spyder

It definitely won't be as much fun spyder, but it won't necessarily be all bad either.  Many of us think back to the muscle cars of our youth, or the bikes, and think that it all went downhill since that time.  But, when you look at actual performance it's shocking just how much better the modern vehicles are even though they have to meet all sorts of tough emission, safety and noise regulations that didn't exist back in the day.  Compare a modern Mustang with a Boss from the 70's for instance.  They have a six cylinder model now that would run with a Boss 302 and still get 30 mpg, based on test results from the various magazines, and if you go with the modern V-8 it's no contest at all.  Same is true of Corvette's and any of the other muscle cars that have modern day equivalents.  And I remember the hot rides of my youth being 650 Triumph's and 900 Sportster's, both of which would be totally blown away by any of the under 600cc bikes currently on the market.  So even though I agree with you, I don't think actual performance will suffer, it just won't be as visceral and "fun".

BTW, they're already working on regulations to add noise to electric vehicles, so that visually impaired people won't step off the curb into the path of a silent car.  I suggested a recording of a Harley with straight pipes, but I imagine Uncle will just give us another irritating "beep-beep-beep" device like those on industrial equipment.  No fun at all. ::)

My plan for preventing fouling of the fuel in my HD is to RIDE ALL WINTER!!  We SE have heated seats and grips, plus I have heated jacket liner and heated gloves.  I can ride to freezing temps which is good nuff here in TN to ride year round.  Sorry about you Yankees, but you deserve the bad weather, bein' Yankees and all!  :P  Just kidding, of course....or am I?  :nixweiss:

Is anyone using octane booster?  I have 11 to 1 with a big cams and it pings bad with 91.  I am in the process of trying different brands of boost, but usually have to use more then the recommended amount.

Damn I'm glad I grew up in the muscle car era where you ran Sunoco 260 leaded 12:5 to1, nice snotty cam and a deep gear  and twisted  it up to make power...best of all when you stood behind it  when it idled...our eyes burned
