Sorry, but you're incorrect on both counts. Google it sometime, and you will see that stale fuel will cause stuck valves, as well as gumming up carburetors, and other parts. And the piston will bend because the valve is in the improper place at the improper time.

I'm a master diagnostic automotive technician, been in the business for 34 years. Pistons don't bend, valves do. While stale gas will gum up carburetors, it rarely will cause a valve to stick. The valve and guide are lubricated with engine oil. The valve seal keeps oil in and fuel out of the valve guide which is where the sticking would occur. I'm sure from your statements that you probably know where to put the gas in your bike ( you googled it) but not much more other than what you've read on some Internet site. Information on these sites need to be relatively accurate. The purpose of my post was to politely correct Larry who is just repeating bad information.

I just caught up with this thread and may need to start another concerning finding low octane fuels put west.

About ethanol I have used the sta-bil and some other yellow stuff sold by HD. I am not sure uf it helps anything or just wastes money?

I have not let a bike set for over six weeks so I probably would be ok without any junk.

I have serious doubts that stale gas caused that mess.... Looks like the cams stopped turning and the crank kept turning or the cams were WAY out of time.

The amount of BS on the internet is staggering, and it's growing exponentially.  Such is the price we pay for the always on instant access, total anonymity, and no oversight.  It might be a really good idea if folks would ignore all those "facts" thrown out by those anonymous folks and just do some real research using qualified sources.  Quoting bogus claims from some ad for an additive or device, or some "common wisdom" from the 1950's, doesn't cut it. 

BTW, I'm still waiting for someone in this thread to pitch the amazing Fitch Fuel Catalyst.  Pure hokum of course, but other than banging around in your tank it's not likely to do as much harm as some of those chemical additives people waste all that money on.  Personally, of all the fuel devices my favorite is the magnet that mounts on your fuel line to "condition the fuel molecules for a more complete burn".  Not that it actually works of course, but it does make for a handy place to stick those little screws when I'm working on the bike.

I'd like to make a recommendation that the mods move all the threads for oil and fuel additives to the humor section, so fewer people would be mislead.

I have to agree. In 20+ yrs of building engines I would have to say jumped timing belt or chain.

Actually, I looked it up on the web and the technical term for valves that have all consistently bent regardless of the cause is referred to as a "wow"... cause when you find out who much it's going to cost to fix it you go "wow"!

I might agree with the idea that there is a lot of hype and over-promising with regards to these additives I still cling to the belief that they are helpful with ethanol enriched fuels. If I am wrong it will be the first time.
