Best Shorty Antenna's ??
« on: September 18, 2010, 08:15:37 PM »

...So just spent an hour or so reading the old posts about "Shorty Antenna's". It seemed like the antenna's from J@M were very popular and recommended from most members. I am looking to change the ones on my 09SEUC, I guess they are like the ones on 06,07,08 bikes to long to me. I am mostly wanting to improve looks and stop hitting things in my garage and myself in the head. Have not used CB and mostly listen to XM.
Question: Are the J@M still the go to "Shorty Antenna" or has someone found something better? I saw some guys using Freedom antenna's. How do the HD short antenna's compare, I noticed the HD antenna's are 19" long others are quite a bit shorter. Thanks

I used the Freedom shorty for several years, then changed to the H-D 19".  The H-D seems to work better in my area, as far as clean reception out in the boondocks is concerned.  Haven't tried the J&M.

I have them all, Freedom, J&M & the Harley one but I use a '06 Ford Fusion one cut off at 6.5" with the original rubber end reattached with heat shrink tubing and dusted with a little black heat paint. Fits under my tourpak (09 SERG) and works very well, at least as good as the other three. I do not have a CB and I am sure it would not work for that, but for AM/FM it is good. Got it at pic-an-pull for a buck. I have had people beg to know where I bought it after hearing the radio, it really does work. I at the time I made it did not care if it worked great or not, I listen to XM an cd's burned in MP3 format anyway, but suprisingly the radio worked so I have kept it.

...Ok is "pic-an-pull" like a (car junkyard)? I have the CB but probably never use it.

My shorty's work ok, but the longer stock antennae was better for CB distance,
The shorty's have nothing to do with XM.

1st is for am/fm
2nd for CB

Pic-n-Pull or Pull a Part are car junk yards.

Yes Pick-an-Pull is a remove it yourself car junkyard. I go there and get wire, connectors etc. Very cheap.
