A little less "Ballast" for riding
« on: September 20, 2010, 06:32:09 PM »

I am going to make a guess that a lot of us have, over the years, gained and lost weight. At least I have. Recently I was chosen to take part in a 12 week clinical trial study and it  concluded last Monday. I lost a total of 50 lbs and feel great and this time it's staying off  :2vrolijk_21:

One thing I noticed on a ride over to Montana last week was that my SEEG certainly handled a bit differently and I was much more comfortable in the saddle (duh!). At the same time, I hit a pretty good side wind (30-40mph) in one area and the affect was quite noticeable in terms of how much the bike was buffeted and I had to work a bit harder and keeping it leaned into the wind.
Something i did not have to deal with at 264lbs!

Congratulations on the weight loss!   :2vrolijk_21:

What did the clinical trial consist of?  How'd you loose the weight?

Thanks! This was a Doctor supervised clinical trial that studied 50 people from the ages of 19 to 71, the Doctors will be publishing a white (research) paper on it and one of them is a very well respected Bariatric surgeon who actually helpf write the protocols for the testing of all Bariatric surgeons to become board certified. I had to submit a video and all of us were chosen from several hundred submissions based on different ages, body types, weight loss goals etc...
It was a fun and interesting experience based on what they had us measure and record and in the end we were able to keep all 50 people participating to the end (unheard of in a clinical weight loss study) and collectively we lost 1562 lbs and over 230 inches as measured at the waist (I lost 9 inches) during the 12 week trial.
We consumed a daily calorie count of 1500 for men and 1200 for women. The basis for the diet was very potent, high antioxidant dark chocolate, a high protein/high fiber, meal replacement shake (used to replace 2 meals per day) and a couple of different chocolate pieces during the day for snacks plus a sensible meal.
Having finished and lost the weight, now for a year we are monitored for maintaining or keeping it off by switching to one shake per day. Being the chocolate nut I am it was not very hard to stay focused  :orange:

Can you share the shake recipe or is it proprietary? Was it pre-made or do you mix it up yourself?

I can't relate......I gain five pounds and my wife is all over me about getting fat.
But what's puzzeling to me is how the weight I do have went from my butt to my belly. :nixweiss:
